King hmmmm good question

Techo u just gave the answer to "what makes a track become an athem?"

for a tune to become a classic...it must be orginal, a masterpiece & critically acclaimed.

just like Twilogoddess said, for a song to become a classic it has to be revolutionary. It has to break down boundaries and explore territory that no other song has ventured into. For the same reason movies become classics, so do trance tunes. For example, the movie Citizen Kane is considered by many to be the greatest film ever. It did things that no other film had ever done before, and it paved the way for virtually every new movie out today. Many would agree that Robert Miles song Children did the same thing for trance that Citizen Kane did for movies. Though it may not be everyones favorite song, it's hard to argue that it didn't revolutionize the trance community.

Thats a great analogy. Citizen Cane was critically acclaimed. The innovative camera shots in that film were unprecedented.

True with the song - but in my opinion, the movie was nothing special. not a fan - but hey that's just me

A classic should just be unique, no matter how old, or just really damn good, or the FIRST of a completely new sub-genre of trance.

i think most of the properties of a classik have been said, it needs to be something that people regard as a classic example of the genre.. e.g. saltwater, children etc etc, it also needs to be timeless and original, which i think is why there hasnt been a so many 'classics' produced for a while... in uplifting/melodic trance anyway..

peace

a classic can only be considered a classic through the ears of the beholder.. A classic to one, may not be a classic to another... For me... a classic is a tune that has been around for a long period of time perhaps from 1 year to 20 years... and is still able to tingle your ear like the first time you heard it...

yeah.. really damn good.. or have something just slightly different. e.g. out of the blue, or scorchio! respectively.
that extra something which separates it from the pack
IMHO it might not necessarily get all the crowds going though.. can be mellow like summersault, that excellent taste experience production
