TURBULENCE @ CityPlace Y2K - Review
wells .. it certainly was a crazy night .. here it goes ..
headed downtown with some peeps to grab dinner at Marche to celebrate my bday tommorow. finally got to the BCE place and the lineup was so long the wait time must have been atleast an hour if not more. so anyhow we spent about an hour and a half looking for a place to eat but everywhere was packed cuz it'z Sat nite of course and me being too stupid to make reservations we ended up eating at Harveys at Union Station.. gee, great place to take ur friends for dinner to celebrate a bday..
already the night didn't start too good .. a couple of friends supposedly coming out to eat with us didn't .. :P
so anyhow afterwads we headed over to the lounge for TURBULENCE.. it was about 9:45pm or so , got inside and the place was almost all empty. and i was thinkin .. okay no worries, it's still early. so we sit down hav a couple of drinks.. i think Precursor was on at the time .. aka. Rahvin .. ? anyhow, he was spinnin some pretty sweet trance. so we waited for a bit hoping for more people to show up.. most of the invites i sent out ended up bailing that night with the exception of the peeps i came down with .. it's something about uptown people whom i live with , as soon as they hear something about 'downtown' and they don't have cars to drive, they automatically tune out on the idea.. it's totally a piss off but ah what can u do about it. our car was full .. :P
so getting back , we sit and wait for about an hour and notice people finally trickling in, most of them guys wells to no surprise since most of TOTA are comprised OF guys so i didn't find it too surprising when there weren't many women inside from the start. i tried to help our cause here by bringing atleast one female within my party (not including GF) to the event but as the night progressed things didn't look like they were improving .. eventually some TA's i knew came in so i won't elaborate too much on the order i met everyone but this is pretty much who i remember meeting that nite:
LKD
Mecha
TranceArmada
DJ Hordash
Endlesswave
Rahvin
Maxtuh
NightCreature
Durafei
Firestarter
TimeWarp
so yea shouts to y'all.. it was nice seeing some of you again, and some of you for the first time
so getting back .. eventually after being entertained by our very own GOGO dancer.. the old dood dancing all alone in the middle of the lounge floor (btw. he looks exactly like my Grade 10 science teacher! haha) most of my friends wanted to leave. i felt pretty bad since a lotta the ppl i asked to come down either bailed and or had other obligations and the ones that were there weren't too impressed.. i really wanted to stick around to talk to more of the TA's but as a host it wouldn't have been right to force my guests to stick around when they wanted to go elsewhere.. eventually the idea to head over to Nasa Lounge came up and our party left .. along with TimeWarp (Arash) and his girlfriend Stephanie..
so the 8 of us disembarked and before we left for Nasa i decided to leave my 80 Trance Video CD's (which LKD asked me to bring cuz he wanted to project trance images onto the screen) in my friends car so we ran to the parking garage .. on the way there, the stupid cheap ass case openned and ALL my gigs of CD's flew out and rolled onto the sidewalk and street.. and i yelled SHIT!!!!!!!!!
and some people walking from the other direction yelled .. "HOLEE!@##$@%$!!! look at all those CD'z!!" .. my friend and I scrambled to pick up as many as we could and some of those people helped out as well. I managed to recover all of them (i think). i was so afraid some were gonna roll into the sewer. unfortunately a lot of them were scratched and i dunno if i'm gonna be able to recover all the data ..
after that whole ORDEAL .. we eventually made our way into Nasa where the place was absolutely banging! everyone there was feeling the vibe and my company totally felt it from there. i couldn't believe how many hot girls were in that lounge that nite, literally everywhere we looked they were dancing around. so we drank and danced and had a wickid time.. btw. TimeWarp was all smiles since we were on the floor dancing between like 8 or 9 hot chicks ! haha crazy.. especially that dark haired girl with the rose shoved between her ..
SO.. we had to leave early by the end of the nite when they started dropping some sick banging progressive, sadly due to the fact that some of us were working the next day..
so all in all it was a crazy nite , but ended off on a pretty high note. i felt really bad about the whole TURBULENCE affair, i really thought more people were gonna show up and i was disappointed that a lotta ppl that i asked to come down didn't. definately not what i was expecting. Caught sets by Precursor, Mecha, and Armada which were all good! too bad there just wasn't anyone there, if the place was a bit more packed i'm sure the party woulda been jumping! this event totally has potential but at the same time the promotion was totally lagging. it's unfortunately due to such short notice on it all. i'm definately gonna get a better word out next time and maybe even help design some flyers. but in the end i'm sure with time this event will draw a bigger crowd as it gets more popular.
one last thing i wanna emphasize on this long post , i know many of you know the composition of TOTA, and that it's comprised of mostly males. single males to be more specific. you guys are all nice people and wickid to hang out with .. but i know i'm not the only person here to notice that there's a significant gendre imbalance in this room. i've posted on a lotta other electronic msg boards before (trance included) but i've noticed that these boards seem to have a good balance of males to females. i remember at one point in the night one of my female friends who was with us said "I feel so out-numbered here!" .. it was kinda odd cuz i didn't know what to say. i just said.. "hey well it's trance." and laughed it off.. but i know a lotta women listen to trance as well. when we left from Nasa at the end of the night they were dropping progressive and the place was going nuts and more than half that lounge was filled with women. hot women to be more specific!
anyways, i'm gonna wrap up this long dragged out review now. i'm sure some of you will have a lot to respond with what i have to say. and i welcome all opinions. i dunno if u'd wanna call the male:female thing a 'problem' but it definately was a clear observance last nite..
so that's it for now... can't wait for the next Turbulence event, and next time i know you can expect a banging party !
ps. shouts to Hordash, and LKD for all the promoting effort & hard work, and to all the TA DJ's who dropped some wickid sets..
nites
