Anyone with experience on the Denon DJ101/DJ151 tables? ...

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of pricing out new gear, likely looking at getting a Behringer VMX200 mixer, but choosing tables is more difficult.

Was initially considering getting the new Numark TT-200s (about $450CND each), but I've had advice coming in from everyone I talk to for me to buy Technics instead (~$725-$750 each). That advice mostly consists of saying that Technics are bulletproof, more reliable, and that I'll end up buying a pair at some point regardless.

Anyways, a salesperson recommended looking at the Denon turntables, which I didn't even realize existed (Denon? Turntables? Hmmmm?). They DJ101s are priced at about $525 each, and the higher end model comes with optical outs (whoop-de-doo...).

Anyone here have any opinions on Denons as a possible choice of tables?

Thanks,

I rented one of these once and it's definitely a usable table. I haven't had the fortune of using tech 12s yet, so I can't compare there, but it has a good amount of torque and seemed very solid.

Hey man if you have the money why don't you just go with some techs, because like you said you will end up buying a pair.

i also heard some nice things about the TTX-1's so...

if i had the money i would get the techs with ortfon catridges

aww /me drools.

been there done that

I did buy them actually and then I got some techs.

I can't say they are bad tt's. They worked just fine.

I had a problem with the needle skipping during cues.

I don't know something about the design of the tone arm and the torque wasn't as solid as the techs. I would recommend regular cart needles not trackmasters or ortofons.

Also keep them away from bass as they are prone to give you feedback.

other than that I think the plastic case was a bit cheesy.

I kind of like metal it just feels sturdier.

Sound quality was pretty good though.

I wouldn't ever scratch with these.

Hi,

I own a pair of those. I'm aiming to upgrade to Techs soon but these babies has served me well for over a year now. They keep their pitch pretty darn well and for the price you're quoting you'll be getting value for money. Definately worth the investment if this is your first pair of decks. Take my word for it, trust those Denons!

P.S You might want to consider the 101's instead of the 151's as they're exactly the same model and the additional digital output function of the 151's doesn't do a thing. And yeah the plastic casing is a tad cheesy but if it's only for home use then I guess it's ok.

...thanks, I appreciate the response to the thread.

I was checking out the top end Numarks today as well, and was much impressed. Going to check out the TT-200s on Monday, which compete head to head with the Denon 101s.

Cheers.
