Thoughts on the vestax PCV 275

Seems a lot of trance addicts love this mixer, it seems to be the most popular mixer around here. (with possible exception of the DJM500/600, which is 2 to 3 times the price)

I have a vestax 275 and I like it, I just wanted to hear what you guys thought about it. It's a great mixer, and i don't regret buying it, but there are a few things that bug me about it.

First, the Bass EQ has a little too wide of a frequency, it seems when you turn down the bass, you lose the whole song.

Second, I wish there was a knob for controlling how much of each channel you can hear when cueing. I find myself always turning the gain of the incoming song way up to hear it, but then i sometimes get used to it like that, and forget to put it back down, then i bring in the song and it's way too loud. I know DJM600 has this, but i don't think the 500 does.

Third, it seems to me that the right hand side of the master volume is louder, i have to move the master balance over to the left a bit, or it won't be balance on the meters. I think this might just be my mixer in particular though, the guy i bought it from complained about that before he sold it to me, so i guess it's my fault, buyer beware and all.. does anyone elses do this?

There are also things i LOVE about this mixer, that most don't have:

The crossfader is AWESOME, so smooth and perfectly curved, i hardly ever even use the volume faders.

The 2 headphone outputs are cool too, i find i use it all the time, for teaching people how to mix, for outputting to my sampler etc.

The pans on each channel are really fun to use in the mix, moving swapping songs from one side to the other and stuff.

The kills are nice too, pretty much silent if you time it right.

yeah i know what you mean but i guess you gotta get used to it *shrugs* i use the pcv 175 which is pretty much the same as the 275 except i dont have the split cues... but other than that you gotta stick with using the gains and the headphone volume as much as possible for comfortable cueing and beatmatching. its not that bad in the end... it just trains you more to be aware that you've set your levels right when you're about to do the mix =)

I have the same quibbles: To wide of a frequency band for the bass eq and my right channel is a little louder as well. I've never had a problem with the cue levels though . . .

I love my mixer. For the price, I can't think of one I'd rather have.

yeah, i want FX too. but imo, if you want FX, get an FX box, like this one:

http://www.pioneerprodj.com/products/efx500/efx500.mv

it has all the FX of the pioneer DJM500, and more i believe.

there are other better sounding FX you can get too.

and since the the PCV275 has an FX loop, you can easily control the send and return volumes on the mixer

Talking Just my thoughts

Hey all, I jsut wanted to add my opinions. I love the vestax 275. A great piece of machinery. I too thought havea slightly louder right side, but only on phone 1. Phono 2 is fine. Also on the FX thing. I was thinking of getting the KORG Kaoss pad 2. And by thinking of getting, I mean asking for it for christmas from my parents and some other relatives.

yup. i also love this mixer. The only thing i would fault is the 1/4inch connections. On the 175 they were just standard phono's, so the cables used to hook ur mixer up to ur PC, and also a seperate cable to the Hi-fi were very simple. Now its a pain in the ass all this 1/4 inch shite. I still hav not found the perfect cable i need. I hav to use various adapters to finally solve my problem (which means i am sacrificing quality)

Infact i need the following cable's if anyone knows where i might find them:

two 1/4 inch jacks at one end -------- standard jack at other end

OR

two 1/4 inch jacks at one end -------- 2 standard phono cables at other end

Im not even sure if i've used correct terms. But i hope this has made clear what i am after. If anyone know's a place where i can find these specifics, then let me no
