Do you have the guts to drop the cued track live?
*edit*
DOWNLOAD SAMPLE
download this sample to hear what i mean. the first song i mixed in live, the second, i dropped at the right time. personally, i like the second one better, but if i could get the first one perfect, i think it sounds awesome!

Do you ever cue the incoming song, with the crossfader in the middle? by this i mean slide it back and forth on the first beat while the other track is playing, letting the crowd hear you cue?
or even just cue it in the headphones, but when you actually let go, slide the crossfader over before you let that very FIRST beat sound to the crowd, or do you make sure to get it lined up properly first?
in both cases you have already beatmatched the record and started it over obviously.
anyway, just wondering if any of you did this. I don't have the guts to do it in front of people, i'm always afraid that i will push it too hard or too soft and make an embarrasing train wreck. Or worse, have the needle skip in my excited cueing and again screw up the mix.
I have done it at home though, and i usually get pretty decent results, but invariably when i drop that first beat, i need to make a small correction, it's never perfect. I can usually get it back in in less than 4 beats, but still it sounds messed for a few seconds.
the alternative is to cue it in your headphones, get it right, then mix it in, but then you've already missed that critical first beat which can sound so good if you do it right. you usually have to wait at least 32 or 64 beats before bringing it in if you use this method, and that sometimes sucks, especially when you are listening to it in your headphones all matched and wishing the crowd could hear.
i will post a sample in a little bit, i just wanted to know what your guys thoughts on this are?
if anyone has any good examples of this, it'd be great if you could post links to them too!
