Talking Help a wannabe in trouble

Hi guys. Here's my problem: this saturday, I'll be throwing a mini-rave party. Nothing big, I just want to have a good time with some friends and share some good music with them (they love jungle and techno... unfortunately, they find trance too soft ). The real problem is: I can't mix live (I prepare mixed CD's at home and bring them to the parties). It's not hard at all to mix techno for them, because I often mix it with some trance (trance backed with techno is not so soft ). However, I don't know how to prepare the drum'n'bass set:

Should I prepare two different CD's, one for harder stuff and the other for melodic tracks or should I mix both styles together?

Because I've got no decks (my parents almost killed me when I tried to purchase them)... I love music, and all my friends know it, that's why they asked me to prepare the CD's... I prepare everything at home using audio editing programmes (which involves a lot of math). The mixing sounds perfect, however, I can't do it live I would use those mp3 mixers, but they can't play live either, I'm afraid

you should check out atomixmp3.. it's pretty tight.

great for live play, very stable... it's got alot of ghey auto-beatmatching crap built in, but you can turn all that off or use it as a starting point and tweak manually to get your best mix.

www.atomixmp3.com

let me know if you need a 'trial' version.

atomixpm3 is an okay prog i have it but the "magic bate match" button dosnt work that well it only matches it up for the time that you click the button but with the trial version it has this pop up that stops the recording and the out put so would be better the have a umm "cough cough cracked cough cough version" like i do
but over all its an okay prog. id rate it 8.5 out of 10

i've got a question... how DO you live mix anyways? i get the jist of it...

play the song, when the appropriate time comes, kill the bass by using the eq but add in the bass from your other vinyl.what i don't understand is... does the DJ have to maintain the same bpm throughout the entire set? Or... does the dj simply adjust it whenever needed, so that 1 song might end up with 2 or 3 different BPMs???

Thank you. I know this is an EXTREMELY stupid question (maybe) but... well i've got to know!

well basicly if you do everything as regular the set should have the same bpm on every song....although I don't think you can do that perfect beatmatch all the time even if it sounds perfect so you might end up with the set going like 3bpm faster or slower in the end but that's an almost unhearable difference

well, two back to back tracks should be the same BPM.

however keeping the BPM the same for an entire set is kinda boring... I tend to start slower than I finish... or reach a climax about 2/3 of the way though the set and then start backing down..

I beatmatch properly when making a transition, of course.. but at certain times I will raise or lower the tempo. generally, i tend to make tempo adjustments at the very end (and sometimes, but not usually, the very beginning) of a breakdown, right before the beats come back... it's least noticable this way.

depending on the transition you are doing, you can sometimes make tempo adjustments at the end of a transition.. especially if you are transitioning into a breakdown... which is not the easiest thing to pull off cleanly, but can sound unique.
