Smiley DJ How do you guys like to start Sets?

I was wondering how some djs here like to start their sets (trance)?

i personally like to start my set with a nice melody and kick into the anthems slowly.

some people start their sets with anthems and so forth...

i know it depends on the crowd but you know... comments

I start with whatever the f*** I want, unless I'm doing a recording or something. I didn't read the above thread but, keep your intro track short and catchy. Then you can do a bunch of things:

- take people on a trip (up and down)
- build the energy
- create an ambient atmosphere (chillout)

possibilities are endless, I usually just end up pulling out the nearest record I have because I am quite lazy

i like to start off wit hi-energy tracks that have beatless intro's, like Tiesto did with his Summerbreeze cd (say what you like, but to me that mix remains one of the best in existence)

after that i just play whatever i like, sometimes switching styles and generally play whatever i think would sound good next.

Or you could innovate like Sasha who used 3 tables to configure his starting track....back in May of last year...when he started off with Planet Funk - Inside all the People [Harvey's Ibiza Remix] blended in with a few bits and pieces....

Why not give those clubbers a chance to see your skills, if you have perfect it, at the start of your set? Besides, most of them are still wide and awake....

I would say go with your natural instincts, if you have a tendency to read the crowd.....that's good...if not...start learning....

Bottom line: No one has the same music taste as you do....similar in some ways sure....but a DJ needs to perfect the motion of Flo in his/her set...

My dream set would be to start off with an Ambient tune, blended in with breaks samples...followed by progressive at about 110-120bpm before I hit the breaks....climax with trancers...and end off with breaks again....

It all depends on the location....and it doesn't hurt to go into the dancefloor and ask around what the crowd wants to hear.....Just because you are in control of the decks doesn't mean that you have to act like a snob and disassociate from the crowd....Even Sasha has went down to the dancefloors to greet his fans...not to mention, party!....

Takes more than practise to cool yourself down, not to mention hit the dancefloors and do a survey....do some Yoga

For me I like to have an instrumental opener that is quite calm. I then like to build my sets up to a peak and hold onto that peak for as long as possible. Its the feeling you get when you hold a set at its peak for over an hour, you tingle when you finish

I like start my set with a melodic intro or with a progressive tune.
I don't like very much start with an anthem but there are anthems that are perfect to do it.

Depends on what the last track of the Dj before me is. I usually start with a track with some energy.
