Windows Update Problems

I have my windows XP computer set to notify me when updates are available, and to notify me when the updates are ready to install.

i have always kept it up to date, including the SP1 update, and all critical security updates since then.

this week however, i have had a problem. the update thing comes up, starts downloading, and then dissapears. all day, it's been off and on. i started 5 hours ago, and it just popped back up, and it's only 9% done. it will dissapear, and come back about once an hour. i do not have my taskbar set to remove unused items from the system tray.

all week, it's been doing this, and an update has never completed. i'm thinking it must be a problem with mircosofts update servers, or with my computer specifically.

then, i tried updating a server in my office that is running win2k pro, and it did the same thing! so, it must not be either of my boxes. i suppose it could be my firewall, or my connection? but everything else seems to be working fine..

has anyone else had any problems with windows update?

ooo microsoft are begining to unleash there plan to take over all illegal household copies of XP! I knew it would happen, click here to read this thread i started a while back, it has some interesting posts in it. Basically what it says in it is that all these "updates" and sending in "system errors" to the microsoft site is actually just telling the cooperation whether your copy of XP is legit or not, i dont know i may be totally wrong but i do think they have the power to do this!

yes, and that was my immediate suspicion as well.

however, this is a LEGIT copy of windows XP, and has had all the updates installed as such.

haha shoulda took about 3-7mins to downlaod everything but its their site, cuz i got a "fast" connection too and it just stops sometimes so click the X in the top right and do it agian and it'll resume and downlaod a bit more and do it agian etc.. .till its done... it'll take about 20 mins like that but it sure beats 8 hrs or so. "if it ever happens agian"
