OK... for all of you who think fruity loops is for newbies.. go flame elsewhere...
i think fruity loops is very powerful and versatile when used right...
most people don't even bother learning some of its features and they judge it by how easy it is to use...
having gotten that out of my way...
the purpose of this thread is to:
- share tips on how to create powerful synths using only fruity generators
- share tips on how to make hard banging beats
- share tips on how to make cool fx and techniques
- share any other miscelaneous tips |
only people who use other softs say that, and in somecases they r right (like with logic, logic does have lots more features than fruity...), but if wanted fruity can be the most fast and powerfull tool for musicians...
tip1 - use piano roll for some of ur drums, go to the envelope edit in the inst. menu and make an envelope with nothing but a full sustain, no attack or release or whatsoever... then, u can write some complicated lines, like u can snap the piano roll to lets say half, and then when used right can do many cool and unique fx, u actually making kind of a granular synth...
tip2 - edit ur samples somewhere else, cos fruity is really not usefull in that...
tip3 - double some synth and offset their tune in different direction to creat "unison"...
tip4 - use panning, i use it on almost everything but the basses (the human ear cant hear a location of a bass sound...)
tip5 - get a reverb other then the one in fruity, the reverb in fruity is really poor...
i dont suggest using the synths of fruity, cos u have so many alternatives, and most of them are better...
i love fruity, but just as a sequencer, u can work fast with it, if u have an idea and u need it to be created instantly than this is the major tool for that, i prefer logic for making finishes and mixing, mastering, etc....
i got more tips, just need to remember...

i always thought that it was a good idea to spread your base out as well but leave the main kick in the middle that way you have greater room over the lower spectrum? anyway... i would also not recomend using fruity for sounds since i have always had problems developing the sound that i want within the program.

fruity reverb is not terribly impressive i must say... but you can almost every time get the sound you want just by adjusting the Low-cut, High-Cut, Colour, and High Damping...
I generally do a high-cut for lower frequency sounds and i do a low cut for higher frequency sound...
and another thing is that you CAN make the sound you want in fruity... in fact, that's the thing i like about fruity... it's hard to just say how to get the sound you want in fruity but here are a couple pointers:
- PARAMETRIC EQ !!!
- low cut, high cut, band pass, etc...
- try reversing some samples for some different/unique effects
- background sounds... sometimes you hear stuff in a song that is really soft and barely audible to our ears... these sounds if put right, can do wonders like: giving a beat more "punch", filling the "empty" spaces, or sometimes if you combine with other sounds you can enhance the "sound" of the sound...
