Here's how I use it:
1) Set the number of beats you want to record
2) Record those beats (using the built in sampler)
3) Set the knob to Loop
4) When the time comes that you want to use sample, at the exact same time hit the sampler play button and drop the volume channel. The sampler is now playing and the record isnt. You can now set the record wherever you want.
5) Whenever you want to go back to the record, you reset the record to wherever you want and raise the volume channel and hit the sampler button again.
I know this sounds confusing but just mess around with it and you'll understand.

its not to much of a pain in the ass except the manual doesn't explain that you have to throw the channel volume fader off and hit the sampler button at the same time. The manual just makes no sense.
