today i decided that im not gonna take a gap year after all and am gonna go straight to uni. Clever of me i no since it means i hav to hand my form in tomora. Talk about leaving it to the last minute. Anywayz everything is filled in, apart from my personal statement which im having trouble with. I know its a long shot, but does anyone hav there personal statement saved from when they went to uni (if u went.) I think reading an example may get me wrting.. pls?

Mike

Personal statements arent that hard, and considering most ucas forms only get 60 seconds of viewng time each by the time they get to yrs, its not a mojor thing.

U have to put down wot u have achieved in yr life, any thing u do out of school, they always like to know u havent just been studying flat out for 13 years, heh.

But otherwise just talk about yrself, and wot u would add to the uni

U should be ok when it comes to talkin about yrself

Taking a year out this year is the best thing iv ever done in my life. It lets you get some well diserved rest and u can save some money etc...
anyway, here is my personal statement. It is prob different to everyone else's because i want to be a teacher lol so it evolves around that, but hope it helps.

"Choosing teaching as a career has required thoughtful consideration and I have used the last three years to ensure I will be making the right choices. When I was 15 completed two weeks of work experience in a local primary school. I spent time working with small groups of infant children and spent time talking to them and supporting with their work. It was at this point that I began to realise that teaching could be fulfilling career choice. Two years later I built on my previous experience by completing a second work placement once again in an infant school. I quickly settled into the classroom and I was pleased that I had become more confident with the children. The pleasure I gained from working and talking with them had not dimmed and I knew that I had as much to learn from the children as they might have from me. I built on this experience further by working in a 'Summer School'. The children were aged 11+ and my responsibilities included working one to one with individuals, supporting their reading and helping them with written literacy tasks. I was glad that I had been able to take this opportunity to work with older children and I quickly gained confidence dealing with behavioural issues.

Currently I am completing my final year in the 6th form studying English Literature, History and Psychology. I feel these subjects will provide me with a broad foundation for any future teaching career plans. I am retaking science and maths G.C.S.E as I am determined to achieve an essential higher grade in

I wish to study English to a higher degree level as part of my teacher training as this is a subject I enjoy and I feel my enthusiasm will inspire and engage children in my care. I know that a love of books and reading can open up many avenues and lead to greater understanding across al curricular areas.

My Catholic faith is an integral part of my life and I regularly attend my local church. I have spent several days at the Briars (a spiritual retreat) and took the opportunity to spend time reflecting on both personal and spiritual needs whilst also reflecting on important decisions I may be making about my future.

Outside of school hours I take part in a range of activities. I am currently a member of my local gym and I enjoy playing a number of team sports including football, and badminton. I have continued to build on a successful one year A.S computer course taken last year. I can confidently use the Internet to aid research and have developed a high level of skill using many I.T packages including Databases, word-processing and art packages.....

....I recognise that teamwork is an essential skill for any aspiring teacher and I have taken part in the Duke of Edinborough award scheme. I participated in a weekend expedition for my Bronze award and enjoyed working with a wide range of people. By taking part in the Duke of Edinborough scheme I have developed confidence in leadership skills and took responsibility for some group activities. Last year I worked with 17 other students to set up and run our own company as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme. My role was 'operations director'. I quickly realised that for our company to be successful all opinions were valid and worthy of discussion. By the end of the year...

I cant find the rest, but hope it helped.

Bit gay i guess lol.

Matt
