Hmph, first, we'll probably have colonies in outer space, which will lead to growth in trade, and minorize influence of the current trade routes. Sooner or later, some country will enact genetic alterations to it's population, and probably all the others will follow that example, when that country gains superiority. There may be attempts to control people through genetic manipulation or some other way. I think traditional families will differ much. Currently, family sizes are dropping. I think there are 2 solutions to this. Either, there will be a large number of intelligent robots taking care of children, so parents have time to make more or there will be human-producing plants. The danger lies in possibility that people become very lazy, stupid and inefficient, if robots take over most problem solving. That's another reason for genetic improvement.
It's not likely that countries of the Earth unite untill a threat comes from outside. However, I see that countries and boundaries will make less and less importance compared to large multinational companies. Care should be taken that they don't get too much power.
Ultimately, if (when) we meet intelligent aliens, if we're on a higher level than them, either we'll ignore them or they'll disintegrate into our society, and vice-versa.
I don't think cosmic disasters will be a big deal when we spread to solar system and beyond.
Nuking each other would be a serious problem, but probably not all will perish. We'd be back at the beginning, then.
