Monkey Dancer 2 European TA's! Tell me where to go! Making trip in May.

Me and my girlfriend are planning a trip to Europe from around mid-May to the end of May. I've only been to London so I don't know shit about Europe.

We'll probably be flying into London and stay there for a few days. Then we'll probably go to Amsterdam, then Paris, then maybe Barcelona.

Are these good cities to see? Does anyone have any good tips on where to go in these cities? We were thinking about Prague too but is it far?

Where can we party? Know any good clubs or bars? Does anyone know if any major DJ's are going to be in any of these cities around that time?

More importantly, does anyone know any good hotels? I'd prefer to not stay in a hostel. I'd like to shack up with my girl at night without someone else in the top bunk, knowwhatimean? And I'd like to have my own bathroom.

Also, I don't speak a lick of French or Dutch. Some Spanish. But I hear English is still used somewhat in the cities.

Is May a good time to go? What's the weather like?

For a trip to about 3 or 4 cities is Eurorail the way to go? Or can I just get cheap flights?

Any help is appreciated!

Gatecrasher do a monthly night at Heaven in London which might fall on a date you're there, or if there's one on at the Republic in Sheffield (Gatecrasher's home) you can get there from London in a few hours.

May's the start of the festival season in the UK too, if you're here towards the end you may be lucky enough to coincide with Homelands, which is usually on the last Saturday of May from 13:00 to 8am Sunday. A large of the big-name trance DJ's will be there, plus techno & D&B arenas.

I'll tell you about the towns I've been in:

The choices you've said are pretty good.

Prague is not far, I think it's about a day's ride (24h) with a train from Paris...definitely worth seeing. I liked it a lot.
And if you end up in that part of Europe, nice towns are Krakow (Poland) (much nicer than Warszava) (There's a very nice salt mine there to see near, and nice historical buildings), Vienna (Austria, very nice), Budapest (Hungary)(very nice also), Koln (Germany)(wierd traffic lights, huge gothic cathedral, and it's pretty close to Amsterdam)...

I sort of like central europe city styles more than western ones, but that's probably depending from person to person.

All of the eastern europe towns are damn cheap, compared to the western europe they're more than twice as cheap. You get a huge sandwich with a drink for like 1.5$...

IMHO Berlin is a pretty ugly town...but there are supposed to be a lot of parties there, although I haven't been to any because of lack of time.

Athens has a nice temple area, should be seen, otherwise it's not interesting. But that's kinda far away from the rest.

Zagreb has a small historical core and otherwise it's pretty boring...

If you like communist urban style, you should see Rijeka, otherwise, no.

If you wanna see a slaughterhouse that uses AK-47s as cattle killing weapons, you should go to Karlovac...

Trieste is not interesting also.

Rome has many roman remains (duh...) and Vatican is a nice thing to see...

You can use english in all cities and everybody will understand you, but if you by chance get on a wrong train and end up in a hungarian village (my experience) not many will know english. Although french tend not to like speaking english so many of them don't know it or pretend they don't, so in Paris, you won't get away with englis so easily. Italians also aren't very good with english. In other countries, there'll be no problem. Especially the smaller or eastern ones, in their towns everyone knows english.

May is a nice time to visit, it's spring then, like everywhere in the northern hemisphere.

I don't know what eurorail is, but I've been traveling with interrail, I guess it's the same thing. I've selected two zones, one including Germany, Austria, Denmark, and the other one including Croatia, Hungary, Czech republic, Slovakia, Poland. The price was 220 euros (220$) and the ticket was valid for 1 month. You can customize your ticket, its duration and area of coverage. With it, all the train rides are free except the fast trains, you pay a supplement for them. Not fast, but not expensive.

Finally, hostels are not what you think they are. You can find many with rooms for 2-4 people, so it's basically like a very cheap looking hotel. I think large dormatories are a thing of the past. Having your own bathroom is a different thing though, hostels usually don't have them. They're pretty clean from what I've seen though.
