welll.. every university is different, they have different courses, and different programs.

at my college, i got enrolled in a program, and that meant i had to take certain courses.

but, if you are not in a program, and you can take whatever you want then, just read through the descriptions and take what you like.

Is this for your main course??

Please, whatever you do little miss spyder...take something you'll enjoy...

I'd hate yet someone else waste their time getting a piece of paper in a field they hate.

Do a LOT of research and make sure your heart is in it.
If you're not passionate about what you want to do, honestly, there's no point.

Don't waste your time, or moreover, your $$$.
OSAP? Sure, but that's not free money and will come back to haunt you big time when you're all done and they want that money back (plus interest).

I'll never understand finishing school with nothing but a little piece of fancy paper, with only the opportunity to 'get a job' like everyone else and start a life with thousands of dollars in debt.

Sorry if this sounds depressing, but believe me, rather you hear it now than be sorry later.

If you're really not that sure what you should be doing with yourself, hold off!
Get a job til you find something you really want to do.
Don't become a, 'Well-my-friends-are-going-so-I-must-go' zombie-lamb.

If I'm wrong, then slap me...
But knowing what I know about what a lot of TOTAs have said (and personal friends) I'm pretty sure I'm right...

Best of luck Julie!!!
I really am rooting for you...

Well Julye, there's some sort of psychological test that tells you what you're most likely to study and may be a good guidance. In my case, it said my top preferences were "law", "politics", "economy" and "geography", so I chose International affairs (and I also like teaching and Asian culture, so I'm gonna take Asian Studies next year too). See what you like the most. Don't rush (i waited one year to make my mind). Ask to yourself what are the things you like the most... do not choose something because someone suggested you'll like UNLESS you really fall in love with it

what Fir3start3r said was good...
This is my first year in UNI... so i'm also debating what EXACTLY i want to study.... and i have up to 1 year to really make up my mind.... i'm currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering... but i'm still not sure if that's what i really want... if you could tell us more about what you like and want to do in the future...or what you're into, that would help in choosing a program or field of study...

but if it's courses ur concerned about... (i'm not sure if your UNI has this, but it should) get the flowchart of the field you are thinking about, which is basically a chart which diagrams all the courses and classes that you need for that major...so it'll tell u what classes u should take.. for ex. if you want to become a chemical engineer, then get the flowchart for that...

hope that helps!

Good advice guys...

I almost forget the most important part...

Talk to somebody in the field of study you're thinking of being involved with.
Somebody with 10 or so years experience and ask them about the field...
Some may be jaded, others not, so ask more than a few!!
What you're thinking and what might be in the 'real world' are quite, quite different.
School almost never prepares you for real life (unfortunately).

Again, good luck!

Agreed.

Even if there's no money in a field you should still pick it, if it's what you love.

Be true to yourself.

Its a little broad with humanities and social sciencies. Have you picked out what major you want? Depending on your major, universities sometimes give you a plan of which courses to take in order to pursue a certain major. Like what tranex said.

If you didnt already know what humanities and SS are:

Humanities
.... English
.... French, Italian & Spanish
.... Germanic, Slavic & East Asian Studies
.... Greek & Roman Studies
.... Philosophy
.... Religious Studies

Social Sciences
... Anthropology
.... Archaeology
.... Economics
.... Geography
.... History
.... Linguistics
.... Political Science
.... Psychology
.... Sociology

Introductory philosophy courses are usually pretty easy and somewhat ineresting.

"Sociology of health" and "sex and gender" were okay.

after two years, 61 credit hours, i still don't know that computer science/information studies is the right thing for me.

it's a hard thing figuring out what you want to do. but do what your heart tells you. unfortunatly for me, my heart is telling me MUSIC, but i dunno if i can make a living off of it.
