hello ta's

i am getting my numark tt 200 and matrix 2 by the end of the month..and i need to start buying records...

do u guys have any opinion on which vinyls? ..i went to a record store the other day..and all i can recognize is fatboy slim, and timo maas...hahah..well..thanks in advance

look at the compliations that you have and pick tracks that you won't get sick of. For mixing ease, I find that PVD tracks are really easy to mix in and out of pretty much any other trance. You can also go to www.di.fm (www.digitallyimported.com) and listen to tracks and live sets. The sets almost always have a playlist, and so you can use other dj's work to your advantage. They sort through the crap and pick their key tracks, then you pick the tracks that you like from their sets.

Most importantly, go into your record shop with a list! You will never remember all of the tracks unless you write them down. Also, look for tracks that are remixed by good people, ie lange, airwave, hiver and hammer, PVD, etc. Listen to them on the net at places like www.dotvinyl.com and then look for them in your record shop so you don't have to pay shipping etc. Look in the sticky thread at the top of this forum about online record shops. Go to ones that let you listen to music and find new tracks that way! Then again, try to get them through your local record shop.

Just one piece of advice – for learning to beat match I suggest you buy a few really cheesy, bog standard, simply constructed housey records. It may sound a stupid idea, but with these you can learn basic principles of beat matching / mixing. Plus, you can be more aggressive and play around with these tunes learning the limits of what you can and can’t do with vinyl, without having to worry about spoiling your favourite tunes!

Oh and I tell a lie. Here's a second piece of advice; Practice, practice, practice!

just go into a record store, pick up a few records from different sections (don't even look for names)
and listen to them

do this till you find something you like
then search through that section and find more records you like

once you find records you like, try looking for records from that same label or producer

sure it's nice to have those tracks that everyone is playing and everyone reconizes, but as a dj, you want to be finding fresh new tracks that everyone and their dog isn't playing

you need to develop a unique sound to set yourself apart from the 50 bajillion djs that are born every day

back in the 70s everyone wanted to be a rock star
today everyone want's to be a dj

be unique and give promoters something that someone else can't

As for learning, I recommand Paul van Dyk tunes. Easy constructed, he has said himself that when he makes a track, he makes it dj-friendly.

do they ship internationally?

i agree with what DJ.Shockwav says. dun go for names just pick up vinyls and start listening (sometimes u will be disapointed just picking out famous names). Listen to stuff that apeals to you things get boring when eveyone plays them...
