You need audio software that can record from your line in such as Sony SoundForge (was Sonic Foundry Sound Forge), Adobe Audition (was Cool Edit Pro), or Steinberg Waves. I am sure there is cheaper software than those, but I dont know of any off the top of my head.

Does anyone know the type of hardware involved? Would I need to get something that splits rca cables? Would I need to get a more powerful soundcard such as audigy? Please help!

you should be able to record w/ whatever crappy sound card came w/ your system. all you need are the 1/8" stereo --> (2) mono RCA adapter. any radio shack in the states should have it. it is the same adapter that comes with most portable cd players.

btw: the new 'pro' version of winamp 5 is suppossed to do recording directly to mp3 if that is what you want. if you are going to burn it and hand out, i would suggest getting one of the pay programs i mentioned above. those also let you add plugins so you can psudo-master and normalize your mix before committing it to cd
