what i mean here is, how do you ppl back em up and still can search on your pc what songs/cds you got?
at same time searching the ones still on pc and backed up?
I make 4 mp3-cds/year and save the winamp generated playlist in a folder on my harddisk. Whenever I search for a specific track, I search that folder.

That's a good idea, but you make a generated playlist?

Yes, each time I finish a mp3cd, I add all files to a new Winamp playlist, press Misc -> Misc Opts -> Generate HTML Playlist (or just Ctrl+Alt+G) and save the html-file to my playlist directory. The filename is the name (or number) of that mp3cd, which makes it very easy to locate tracks I'm looking for.
