OK guys, I'm working on my first track ever, in Fruity 3.56.

I'd like to ask you some questions as I go along, if you don't mind, periodically in this thread

Okay, 1st question: I recorded 2 vocal samples (call them V1 and V2), of different lengths. With the 1st bar of each new measure, I want to alternate between V1 and V2. But the thing is, V2 is longer so I need to "cut it."

In fact, I want V2 to be suddenly "cut" by V1, that's why I made it longer.

So I set V2 to "Cut itself," but it still doesn't work! The end of V2 still plays out. Does "Cut Itself" only work at the end of the whole pattern?

Here's what I have: V1 is - , V2 is _

- _ - _

each of these starts a new measure (of 4 bars).

"cut itself" , is the orgianl form a channel, where the new notes in the same cannel cut the notes in the same channel....
i can explain it to you now, but i afraid i'll do any mistaeks cause i never used this option , just look what is said in the Help
"Miscellaneous Channel Settings (MISC)" section:

2. Cut / Cut By
Using Cut/Cut By you can set triggering of a note in one channel to cut notes in another one. To do this you set the Cut value (the LCD on the left) to some number in the channel that will cut notes and then set the Cut By value (the LCD on the right) to the same number in another channel (that will be cut from the first one). FruityLoops will not detect if the Cut value is set to the same number in several channels, so you may freely create any combination to suit your needs. You can also make a channel to cut itself - just set its Cut/Cut By values to the same number. FruityLoops will do this automatically (finding unique numbers, not used in other channels) if you check the Cut Itself button.

Please note that cutting just sets all notes' envelopes to release state. So if release you set is long, you will still hear a note fading out after it was cut.

OK, thanks, I got it, BUT:

What if I want a sample to be cut by 2 possible other samples?!
There's only one Cut/Cut By box in the Misc Channel settings!

Suppose I have V1, V2, V3:
V2, the middle one, will be cut by V1 and V3.

So, I set:

V1: Cut=1, CutBy=1 (itself, doesn't matter)
V2: Cut=2, CutBy=1
V3: Cut=2, CutBy=3

doesn't work!

And also, another question: I was under the impression, while downloading, that "FrutyLoops 3.56 Full" meant FULL.

Suddenly I find out that SimSynth says Demo on it, and that I won't be able to save it(??) SimSynth is not included in the "Full" version? Then where can I get it from (also KaZaa)? And do you guys recommend using SimSynth at all, as opposed to something else, for the main leading synth-keys?

it sucks
fruity is such a pain
can't cut a channel by multiple others, can't save SimSynth...

and about your second question.... yes there are demo versions of some synths in the FULL version.... they cost additional money... and yes you can download them, like you can download everything today.... here you should help yourself

I come to a point where I fill every single box, and then I need to split the smallest box into halves! How are drumrolls programmed?

open the piano roll for the drum u wanna roll (example: snare)
then click at the top left corner to get the Menu.
Click on Open Scores and you can see that there are some presets drumroll. Load and see how its done.

Everything in Fruity is in a neat square matrix, but what if I need to insert 1/2 a pattern (a small break) rather than the whole pattern?

Can you increase the "resolution" (or whatever it is called) of the matrix? For example, in Buzz I can make it so the sequencer lets me put in a pattern every 1 beat, if I want. I'm sure something like this is possible in FL...
