Zimbabwe & the cricket world cup

As I've got up this morning, Various members of the England cricket team have recieved death threats about the world cup in Zimbabwe in the next couple of weeks.

Basically with the unrest atm, the government told the ECB (english cricket board) not to go

The financial cost of not going would be circa 9 Million GB££s mainly from lost revenues, The ecb asked the government for this in compensation as if we don't go, Zimbabwe will pull out of a tour here, and given that 8 out of 11 of their players are white anyway, it seems stupid that there are problems there.

So anyway, the ECB have decided to go, it involves 1 game vs zimbabwe, and the rest in South Africa for us.

The decision to go has caused uproar with the government cos we dared to betray them, but they won't compensate us, but they will spend money on other stupid things like the bad immingration system and handouts for them too.

So imho, why shouldn't we go ?

The people who have sent death threats to english players, are imho scum, the players are doing what they can, and if they don't go, their will be more problems within the game, politics and sport just don't mix, so who is right in this ?

(ps pardon the wording if bad, it's early)

I think so too, imo it would cause more problems by not going, and politics & sport don't mix, I only hope they don't give in to the scum who're threatning them

I think they shouldn't because Zimbabwe is a country with a racist regime. And the scum that are threatening them are probably sponsored by government itself, or at least closely related to it.

I personally have never been much for moralism, but I do believe that boycotting this game will send the (right) message to Mugabe, contractual obligations be damned, that his human rights abuses are absolutley unacceptable.

I agree on that level, I just disagree on how our government has handled it, they could have made a decision but only 'advised' which did our guys no help @ all, at the moment they dont want to play now, mainly due to the death threats, and are trying to get the game moved into south africa, i'll update when i know nethin else
