Arrow is spain expensive to live

hello you fellow spanish talking tranceaddicts

I'm sorry to disturbe you guys forum, poisoning it with english, but I have a question to the spanish people:

is it expensive to live in spain? I have this offer to finish my study at the university of barcelona, but the biggest issue is I probably won't get any money while I'm staying there .

I'll get some money from the government in holland and get some studyfinancing (totally like 400 euros a month). is this enough to buy yourself food and go out every weekend? is there any form of public transportation in the big cities and if so, how expensive is it?

I'll probably need a place to stay as well, but that is probably going to be at the university and paying that money from my own bankaccount is no problem .

then: is it expensive to buy and run a car in spain? how much does that stuff cost you a month? I'm talking basic transportation then ofcourse

last: are there any good websites I can visit with info in ENGLISH about spain, its habbits and the costs to live there?

MANY MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

yours, Gerdinand Kolkman a.k.a. kolkiewolkie

(boy will I miss all these parties in holland , tell me the hot clubs in spain as well!! )

oh well.. I think there are more clubs in Madrid City than in Barcelona City! There are few clubs in BCN which plays dance music: Ilusion, Pont Aeri, Rockola, Pacha, Area (in Sabadell, a little town near BCN), and more...
Welcome to Barcelona mate and.. I hope u like it!!
Cheers

Im an English student currently living in Spain in Oviedo. And its a lot cheaper than living in England. Where I am is very cheap indeed 150 euros for a months rent in my flat where I live with two other english girls and thats is half what I pay in England!

Obviously living in Barcelona will be more expensive because it is Barcelona, but it would be very much worth it!

I live on about 100 euros a week not including rent, I could easily spend less though, and this is on EVERYTHING! A proper meal in a restaurant menu del dia only sets me back 6 euros. I dont know about running a car cos I dont have one!

If you need anymore info feel free to ask on here or PM me!

excellent work here guys, maybe you could post some websites of these clubs, so I at least know who spins where, or that I can at least read afterwards who that dj was .

and posh, thanks for the info man!

'costa del sol' could you also tell me what I should and should NOT do , how is the public transportation, is a car very necessary or can you life a life with a bicycle or something . A friend of mine told me that if you only want to use the metro, you become VERY unhappy after a month or so

about the car-thingy, know any good sites where to look for second hand cars? because the dutch government isn't particulary fond of people being 5 months out of the country with a dutch car

thanks in advance

good luck if you do go ahead with it. I have friends in Barcelona this year and they are loving it. I think a year abroad anywhere in Spain is amazing and definately worth doing!

Do you speak Spanish cos it is excellent practice for that!

Barcelona is very expensive for beer and there aren't many pubs. Restaurants are also expensive.

But apart from that, it is a beautiful and massive city.

@Posh Bird, do many people in Barcelona speak Spanish well? I didn't have the chance to find out as I know neither and had to speak to everyone in English.

For clubs, Nitsa (www.nitsa.com) is a well known techno club in Barcelona. It used to have Dave Clarke as resident apparently.

It depends, common shops are cheaper for every-day items than England, but eating/drinking out is very expensive over there compared to England (except places like London). I think this is because the Spanish love to be out and about (maybe something to do with their weather), and pub/club/restaurant owners know this. But if you are prepared to cook your own meals and buy things from supermarkets you could probably get by in Barcelona.

I heard a lot about Barcelona's nightlife before I visitted, but to be honest a night out in Newcastle is considerably cheaper and there is much more choice. In Barcelona you have to actually look for the nightlife, in Newcastle you just follow the crowds if you're new to the city. It is quite expensive to go drinking every day in Barcelona, but ordinary items in corner shops are very cheap compared to England because of less tax on their goods. I don't know how things stand in Holland though, sorry.
