track automation is the easiest method

Syncing the panning to your LFO's, whether in 1/16 or 1/8 notes can do this. If you use S&H, it will create quite random results, instead of using typical sine, square, or triangle waveforms. Also, ping-pong delays will occasionally allow for programmable delay patterns that tap back and forth or in the middle of the L/R spectrum.

ya i think its something more along those lines...and i dont think its the delay effect...im talking about the main pattern or synth panning left and right like crazy....very fast...i guess it could be the lfo...how would i go about setting that up though?

Rather than lots of automation you can simply use an auto-pan effect. You should be able to find a no-frills freeware one that will offer sync to VST or DXi host tempo if that's what you're into.

Sometimes you can use a pan delay too, it pans the delayed signals and sounds great on leads!
