Genrification is so pointless Most artists overlap and are influenced by other movements, but whatever.

Armin, Ferry and Tiesto are the leaders of uplifting Dutch trance, which is typically the more anthemic and melodic kind of trance. However, Tiesto broke with that mold and now spins progressive uplifting funky tech-trance He's definitely the less melodic of those three right now.

Yes James Holden is progressive and tends to be more melodic and therefore "trancier" than your typical prog dj.

Goa and acid? I'm no expert in this area but there is an obvious difference which I can't really explain right now. Go to www.ishkur.com or something like that.

Acid is a kind of techno that was around in the early 90's

Goa and Psy Trance are similar (The same to my ears) and basically listen to stuffs by:

Astral Projection
Man with no name
Infected Mushroom
X-Dream
Hallucinogen

That kind of stuff.

Okay this has to be said once and for all.

GOA = PSY

They aren't similar, they are identical/synonomous.

Just quite possibly I'm wrong, but I'm very close to 100 % that its the same thing just depends on what you like calling it. Personally I think psy sounds much more sexy then goa so I always refer to it as psy.

Someone plz correct me if I'm wrong, cause I need to know!

it's true, goa is psytrance, and the terms can be used interchangably AFAIK... goa is supposedly the name of the area in india where this type of music 'supposedly' originated. It is a real place, but i cannot tell you for sure whether or not that is true. Psytrance tends to be on the trippy side of the sample spectrum, :-)

BTW if you ever want to find out about all the funky little subgenres in music or just musical history in general ALLMUSIC.com is a great place (AMG) although they tend to stray away from electronic music (as it is a very very hard genre to catalog due to the vast vast ocean of electronic music)... For the most part they are up to date on who has released what and for bigger artists they even have bio's and stuff.. rather interesting, as well as the outcropping of certain genres its rather interesting...

Er... yes he is.

And I'm sure people more knowledgeable on the whole psy/goa stuff will explain that there is a difference between them. Nowdays the terms are ususally used in the following manner: goa (aka full-on) trance is uplifting, to use an appreciable analogy, whereas psytrance usually denotes tracks on a progressive tip, a bit more minimal. That's perhaps not the best way of describing it but hopefully it's a tad clearer. So some full-on goa would be stuff like GMS, Talamasca, Alien Project, etc. Psytrance would be... I've no clue really. Ask someone else.
