so i tried this experiment....
i was down the coast for 2 weeks, in jan juc, only came back 2 days ago now. Anyway while up there the jan juc surf lifeguard club (who i'm part of now) where having a funraiser night, anyway they asked me if i would dj there for them. They requested house music for the night, which is fair enough, i was actually expecting them to ask me to play fox fm's hottest 100 all over again, so i considered myself lucky. So yeah the night was banging, everyone was dancing and the general vibe was really good. AS the night got older, i decided to try something new, i began to move to a more darker style of electronic music, i started playing some trance.
Now im not talking boring tunes here, to start off i dropped PvD - for an angel, then moved on to utah saints - lost vagueness (oliver lieb remix) then a little dj tomcraft - lonliness etc.... and slowly but surly, the crowd seemed to thin, and eventually i found myself (no joke) alone playing nu-nrg - dreamland, i was like WTF! what are you guys doing!
i dont know even though it ended up being a great night, that was a real downer for me, i mean it seems like maybe trance just will never be appreciated in australia, and that kinda disapointed me. so yeah i know a good dj is meant to read a crowd, but what kinda crowd doesn't like the trance tunes i played!?
it seems the only time i'll get to spin some trance is at home, i doubt i will ever play it at a party ever again.
felt i had to share that with you guys......
p.s this isn't the first time its happened so that is why i have learnt my lesson
