though grabbing a second hand pair is a safe bet, as many state they're "built like tanks", technics don't depreciate greatly in value so u gotta ask how much u'll really be savin. of course, shop and take a good look around as no doubt, there are real bargains out there. but after a month or so of looking around, i decided to just go brand new as i figured if u're going to pay that much, you may as well pay a little extra to be assurred with something untouched, un-used, brand new, and most of all with a warranty =)
as for mixers. you don't need something grand to begin with. no need for all the extra channels, effects n features. something basic, 2 channels, with 3 band eq. pioneer djm300 is a nice box to start. that's one i fooled around with for a lil b4 i got my gear. but then, my first mixer is a djm600, so i'm a hypocrite. but i got it cheap, so its justified =)
cheers!

That'd be my advice too... go for brand new TT's. You won't save that much in the end, because Tech's don't drop that much in price.
When I bought my TT's, I looked around for some 2nd-hands too... But in the end I bought new ones (Gemini PT-2400's), just because I felt much more comfortable buying new ones. And I have to say, I still feel that way
As for mixers.. I myself bought a Gemini PS-626.. 3 channels, 3-band EQ's, everything you need, nothing more (except for the lame microphone talkover function of course ). Maybe it's worth considering for you too.. It's a decent mixer (until now, I've had it since early October 2002), and it's very reasonably priced.

Personally, I wouldn't buy them used off ebay because you don't see them till you've paid the cash & shipping charges...if they're brand new off ebay it should be fine...
I would try and find a local seller or store that is selling them used. That way you can try em out, look at the condition first hand etc...besides, once you're done converting the cost into CDN dollars and pay for the shipping charges, it'll probably be around the same price.
as for mixers.... |
Hi,
Couple of suggestions for you. I too was faced by the same dilemma regarding turntables. I finally decided to finance my equipment, and went with Technics 1200s instead of the Numark TT-200s.
I must admit that I had some doubts with regards to how adamant everyone was about buying Technics, but now that I have my hands on them, I have zero regrets. The build quality is simply amazing - if you dropped a Technics turntable on someone, it would probably kill them. The things must weigh about 40 pounds each, if not more.
My line of thinking previous to considering financing was that I could buy something cheaper to start with, then buy Technics later. If you can finance, why bother doing that?
