you don;t need 2 soundcards, you can use it with one sound card too and get both channels using front/rear of your soundcard.

most soundboards loose SO much quality when in 4-channel mode... especially the older ones.

and for the price of a good quality surround card, why not just spend the little bit of extra $$ and get a pro-quality 4 channel board, that shows up as multiple devices and supports something better than WDM ?

What sound card would u recommend?

The audigy isn't that bad.. as a playback card. I wouldnt try to record analog stuff to it, but for basic digital (spdif) recording it should be fine.

I know the SB Live! totally reeks in 4 channel mode.. i own one. ive seen spectral plots on the web of sb live! cards and theres no way id wanna mix on one. they also like to distort easy. the audigy is supposed to be a bit better, though.

should be fine digital wise, like s/pdif.. its analog that suffers from on consumer soundboards the most.

plus the whole refusal to record digital copies (like of DAT's for insrtance) at 44.1khz... silly consumer hardware

If this thing just had S/PDIF on it, i'd own it. I've heard them in action, they sound good. quite good, especially with the balanced +4dbu TRS input in action and a pro level device connected to it. support for ASIO, ASIO2, GSIF, and EASI, plus multiclient standard WDM mode... so it should work with just about anything and have low latency.

4 channels out - that's two stereo pairs... and four more coming back into the card. all on balanced TRS. good DA and AD converters. 24/96 support on all channels.

this and the echo gina are two of the better interfaces... the gina is ideal if you have digital requirements it's top on my toylist, right now

Same basic deal.. breakout box, high quality AD and DA converters, 1/4TRS balanced ins/outs.. except this is 8 out 2 in analog, and also has optical/coaxial S/PDIF, as well as multichannel ADAT lightpipe.

that should suit my DAT deck nicely...
