Ok Johnny I will start from the begging .

The hole song process can take up to 1 month to 4 months for the one song , I start off thinking about the type of song I want to produce sad , happy , up lifting energy and so on , at the same time I get into character to get into the right mod because I`am wating for a spontaneous melody to pop it to my head from this . this can happen in many ways , Dreaming , Listening to other peoples music , or when I get strong emotions or some other type of trigger . To get these spontaneous melodies I keep a small tape recorder with me and beside me when I sleep . this hole process can take 2 weeks to 2 months and I never force it .

We would probably collaborate real well together. The reason I say this is because we, for lack of a better term, we attack from opposite ends. I'm like you in the sense that I don't force anything...I just let it happen when it happens. But as for planning anything out over time...it doesn't usually happen that way with me. I never know when it's going to hit but when that certain burst of creativity starts pumpin through my veins, I've got to sit down and try to get at least the basic foundation down before I lose it. I like your tape recorder idea and would even think about trying it except for one thing, I can't carry a tune for the life of me...I would end up frightening myself by listening to it. Also, Drums usually come first with me (about 70% of the time .....a bass line first, about 20% of the time and a melody about 5% of the time......the last 5% is usually just building off of a noise or droan or whatever). I think I was a frustrated drummer in another life...but they come pretty easy for me so I'll start with drums and then usually follow that with a bassline. As for the melody, it seems to just sort of take shape as it's happening....whatever spills out of me. Once I've got the basics down, then I'll take my time refining, adding, rearranging, mixing down, etc. That's when I spend the most time (normally)...Then, like you, I'll put it aside for a day or two and then go back and listen to it with fresh ears and make any changes if needed. That part of it can go on for weeks...a little here, a little there. Originally, I was writing almost everything using Cakewalk & sound fonts and sampleing a lot of my own instruments & sounds. Until pretty recently, the computer I had just didn't even want to let me run Cubase (crash, crash, crash).Now, I still use Cakewalk and also Soundforge, Acid, Cubase and am starting to work with Reason (thank you, I owe you for that one!).Lastly, what I write isn't always what I would call trance. Different things come out at different times so there is a pretty wide range of styles (everything from cartoon sounding stuff to almost classical sounding stuff).

Everybody has their own way of doing things and I'd say that if it works for you, then you're not doing it wrong.
