Progressive House / Trance Mix

Hey all,

well after getting such kick ass reviews from you guys about my previous mix, I thought I should post my latest one. Actually, I had done it for a local radio station but I thought since it was recorded, I might as well share it with you guys. Tracklist is a bit different from my last mix, there's a few commercial tracks, but I think it all fits quite well. Let me know what you guys think of this one.

Anyways, you can get it here

Tracklist:

1. Angels Reverse - Don't Care (Goldtrix Dub)
2. Jaimy and Kenny D - Caught Me Running
3. Chris Lake - Santiago De Cuba
4. Hip Service - Badaboom Badabing
5. Iio - At The End (Scumfrog Mix)
6. Rephlex One - Pulse (Coming Soon Remix)
7. York - The Awakening (Hiver And Hammer Mix)
8. Solar Stone - Solarcoaster
9. Yahel - Sugar 1
10. Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (DJ Tiesto Mix)
11. Atlas - Compass Error (Tarantella and Redanka Mix)
12. Fusion feat. Matt Hardwick - Spectrum
13. Hemstock & Jennings - Rendezvous
14. P.I.M.P. - Why?
15. BT - Mercury & Solace (Marc Shimmon Mix)
16. Odd - Don't Look At Me
17. Steve Porter - The Return

Great work!

The mixing is great, certainly up there with most pros out there. Compared to for example Armin van Buuren, your mixing is just as tight, if anything he might be a bit better to conserve the energy when doing transitions, that is, a couple of times your mix is a bit boring when "transitioning". Part of that might be the low bpm-range you are using, I don't know. Maybe you should try to increase the pitch throughout the mix, Hiver & Hammer sounds a bit boring at 132bpm. And on a couple of the transitions there were some obvious bass conflicts. These are extremely minor complaints however, and other than that, I honestly wouldn't have complained if this was a radiomix by Tiesto. Keep up the good work!

And the tracklisting... whoa... really great, it fits my own playing style very well. Lots of wonderful tracks, only one I didn't think fit in there was perhaps "Southern Sun" but that's about it. The worst thing I can say about the mix concerns the fifth track, as you have named it incorrectly. It's a Scumfrog mix . My guess would be that you have tried and tested mixing with these tracks a lot, and then found out who fits best together. If not, and you picked the tracks while doing the set, I'm going to get even more impressed.

Now all this may sound almost too good to be true, but I really like the mix and felt obliged to reply. What about you upping new mixes on a monthly basis or something? I would really be looking forward to that. Good luck, anyway!

And if you want to, take a listen to a little mix I recorded just for fun while having a couple of beers last saturday. Some nice tunes in there. I have posted the link in a separate thread.

Hey zapper,

I really can't thank you enough for that in-depth review. I was hoping for someone to leave something like this and am really glad you did! Thanks for correcting me about the remix of Iio, I must've misread the remix from the record. I know what you meant about Hiver and Hammer being too slow and sounding really awkward along with some other tracks, but I had to keep slow it down in order to be able then to mix in the latter progressive closing tracks, or otherwise I would have sped them all up for sure. I also agree Southern Sun kind of stands out, but I had to play a few recognizable tracks just because it was a radio set, or I would have gone with some other less recognizable vocal tracks.

If you have the time, check out my other mix I posted on the board about 6 months ago, I'd love to hear your input on it too. Its more clubby and more driving mix than this one. You can check the thread here and download the mix from here.

As soon as I get back home from work tonight, I'll download your mix and will definately check it out!

TG, nice work! It really sounds flawless and majestic. I like the fact that I'm treated to a two hour blissful set, unlike most sets that clock in at about 70 to 80 minutes. You seemed to keep the flow and tone throughout the set and didn't deviate. I also agree with zapper about the pitch and bass overlap conflict. The sets seems a little slow, perhaps increase to 135 or 136, but still that just something very minor. Also, good job on the track selection. To tell you the truth, this isn't my style of music, but really enjoyed it. Anyway, awesome job!

I'll definitely check out your previous mix, will do tomorrow, as I don't have a internet connection at home and have to bring my laptop to the university. Hopefully I'll write a really in-depth review for you then, probably ready on saturday.

pretty nice mix, kept it flowing with all that variety, but like zipper said, the bass seemed to be off on one trasition, barely noticable tho..

anyways, mixing was pro, keep up the good work
