Question question regarding Robert Smit

Robert Smit will be spinning here in Los Angeles in two weeks. Is he worth going to? I need to know this because I saw Mauro Picotto last week, and I can't tell you how much I regretted going. I really don't like techno. I was expecting tracks similar to the ones played by van Buuren, Corsten, and Tiesto. I've never heard so much annoying noise in my life (no offense to any techno fans out there ).

So, can anyone tell me please what kind of tracks I should expect from Robert Smit. Please take into consideration that I love melodic trance (not techno, or progressive).

Thanks to anyone who answers. I really appreciate your help.

Well, my taste in music is exactly like yours.
I also like melodic trance, and I was really disappointed when I recently saw Tiesto, because he spun too much techno/progressive and almost no melodic, uplifting stuff, which he is known for.

Seems like that's the direction they're all going in... Tiesto, Armin, Ferry Corsten a little bit, and maybe Robert Smit too. I group them all in the same category. The times, they are a-changing! (Remix of Bob Dylan, anyone?)

But I would draw your attention to the fact that Robert Smit ("The Generator") is the author of some great melodic tunes: "Where Are You Now" and "New Orizon," those are the ones I've heard. He's worked together with Ferry Corsten. So if I were you, I'd take my chances and go see him live!! At least tell us afterwards what Robert Smit has decided to do with his music...

trance4life, id say you should definitely go see him. i dont know these other tracks by him, but i have his last yr release smiter - both places (tsunami) on vinyl
and its great melodic-style trance. real quality.

he's said to be ferry's right hand man, and you cant equate ferry corsten and tiesto, even if tijs is going on a harder tip recently.
so go see him!

thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it. Reading your opinions definitely makes me want to go see him. Here in Los Angeles I hardly ever see any djs play melodic stuff. Every club is either house music or progressive. I really hate dancing to that stuff. I need a freaking melody, dammit!!!

Eugene, funny that you mention Tiesto. I actually was at the club the night he recorded Magic7. That was probably the best clubbing night in my life. He was making the crowd go nuts with all the uplifting melodic songs. There were a few new tunes that he spun that were amazing. I still haven't been able to find out the names of these songs that he played after he finished recording his cd set.
Oh well, I hope he comes back here soon. I am really surprised though that he is changing his style of music.

Well, the same club that brought Tiesto here is also arranging the Robert Smit appearance. I hope I won't be disappointed. Thanks for the encouragement.

Anyone else got opinions of Robert Smit???

Theeyesofdarkness,

Thanks for linking me to that post. The bad thing is that I bought the tickets on-line 2 minutes before I read your post....and the worst part is that I bought a bunch of tickets. Oh well... I never have any luck. But thanks anyway.
Now regarding Picotto, I've listened to some of the popular tracks he produced. It's nothing like what he spun. How would I have known that he doesn't spin similar style to what he produces? I really have to say that it ruined my night. I thought Christopher Lawrence was bad, and then when I was disappointed by Picotto I just wanted to leave.
Of course I know that Magik7 is out. I am actually talking about the tracks that he spun AFTER he recorded his set. They were really cool, and nobody has a listing of his whole 3 hour set.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I appreciate it. Now I am really looking forward to seeing Smit. That guy Tantos from the other thread e-mailed me and said that Smit spins mostly melodic and break beats, and some progressive. NOW I am excited!!
