So my dad goes to the doctor 4 weeks ago complaining that his leg keeps on locking and he can't walk. The doctor says it's fine and sends him away with pain killers.

He was on holiday in france last week when he was in too much pain to walk. so my mum takes him to hospital where they x-ray his leg. This shows him that he's chipped cartilidge or something ( it's just under the kneecap). It's a famous fotballing injury

I was thinking we could get some money via a claim cos' the french doc's gave him the x-ray to take home. My dad, after paying tax all his life for the nhs, doesn't want to claim, what a zoomer. I was thinking we could get about 5 grand out the ******s. Thats a new car for me.

to be fair tho mate if youre gona sue the NHS, u goto be in it for the long hall, we're talking years here and maybe £5000 aint worth the hassle involved, i doubt id sue them. I could because a doctor fucked up a minor-op on my left arm and has left me with a 3cmx2cm scar, i could easily sue on that but it really aint worth the agro.

Yeh, thats nasty.

My grandad had a car accident like 20 years ago and badly damanged his leg - he needed his bone reconstructed or something (im not sure). After long operation and loads of hastle they put the wrong bloody bandage on and it started to fester (eww yes). The bone became infected, it never healed and he had to have his leg amputated. It was due to heal no problem before.

Can happen anywhere, not just the Nhs, and you dont want it to be so everyone sues for anything. However, this is probably one of those times when you should sue - like my grandad should have - but people dont wanna claim because its more hastle and they just wanna recover etc.

I know u may not agree, but doctors are only human, they can get things wrong, as we all can.

And as for sueing the NHS - that will make it worse. If everyone sued them then the already inadequate service would become even worse, potentially making occurrences such as this with your Dad's knee happen more often.

nasty though it is, i'm not for sueing unless in very grave circumstances. mistakes can b made, especially when our doctors r workin flat out something like 16 hours a day. sueing will just make the cash-strapped system even worse.
i could sue my school 4 never realising i'm dyslexic, but what's the whole point? they don't have the money, it would take s'thing away from some other kid's education, and finally it would only b the taxpayer to bare the brunt of it, ie. you.

My dad went to see his doctor complaining of finding it hard to breath. The doctor realised whatever was going on was quite serious and sent him to the hospital. The hospital said it was just a bad chest infection and sent him home. It got much much worse, so he went back in, and it turned out he had double pneumonia. He almost died. Cocks!

Yeah my dad isn't for suing either, but the fact of the matter is he is now 73 and has been paying taxes all his life in the good faith that when needed the correct treatment will be given. Fair enuff mistakes can be made, but there is far too many being made at the moment. Surely if somebody complains of such pain the correct thing to do would have it x-rayed. The only reason they didn't have it x-rayed was to avoid the costs.

Once again it all boils down to the fact tony blair has virtually forgatten about his country over the past few months cos his head is that far up a bush. If we didn't put all this money into war then think how much better our nhs would be.

to be fair giving him anti inflammitory tablets would be the first step, to stop the swelling of the cartilidge which would be swelling and causing his knee to lock.

doctors dont have x ray machines so this is always the first step they take when exterior simptoms dont point to serious damage. there isnt much point clogging up more waiting lists with sum1 with a dodgy knee rather than sum1 with broken bones etc.

not being a **** of anything but thats what would of happend in most cases unless your dad said he fell hard onto sumthing to question possible internal damage. which he didnt.

oh and one last thing, your dad is 73? are you the youngest child or sumthing?

Thanfully yes. at the age of 18 i do get a fair old ribbing from my pals about the old man, but he doesn't really look his age.

Just one last point about his leg to make. He actually told the doctor that his leg was locking all the time making him completely immobile, but i suppose doctors are only human.....
