Ghost Smilie wanna pull a mix with CDs...help plz.

I spent a while with a friend who spins vinyl mixes at small random events.... I found out that I'd love to mix for a small event such as at school or at a friend's place. Either way, I'll have a loud, big system and only access to CD mixing. The school has a CD deck, which isn't exactly DJ quality, but does the job.
WHere do I start if I wanna do a mix from my own tracks using the CD deck and mixer?? I'm really n00bean at this stuff, so keep the tech talk at a dumbed down state.

Sop basicaly you can't mix, don't have access to Dj-aquipment and you wanna mix in front of a public?

The school has a CD deck but it's not quality, so a'll assume that it are just 2 cd-players, which means you can't even connect a mixer between them...

I suggest you just play your songs one after the other on those players.

Don't really understand your question(s)

Do you have two CD players?
Do you want to beat-mix between two CD based tracks?

it's a 2-cd "deck" that doesn't seem to be able to attach to a mixer. And yes I wanna mix em, live.
If this isn't workable.... where do I start if I wanna learn to mix vinyl or CD??

start w/ equipment
you can pick up 2 cdplayers for around $300, maybe get a mixer and 2 cd players from 300 - 400 bux
need headphones
and hook the mixer up to your home stereo and you are in business

if you are really serious.. go get yerself a pair of tech12's and some vinyl and go from there

the cd route is definately the cheaper route as you can dl and burn and teach yourself on that... however, nothing will give you the sound of a vinyl!

why not buy a few pieces of vinyl and ask ur friend if he'll allow you to learn on his equipment. of course, he'd have to be a real generous friend, but at least that way before investing in equipment, you'll find out whether mixing is for u or not
