hi there i wanted to ask you a question i want to know for some time:

when you cue a track, do you cue it to the beginning of the track, or do you cue it in the middle of the track after the first break, because if you cue it the the beginning of the track you play all the track which is probably long, i've also noticed that djs at clubs play only one break of a song (if it has two or more...).
so tell me what do you do ? cue the track in the middle of the track so it plays only one break and you get to the finish beats quickly, or cue it to the beginning and let the crowd hear the whole track - two breaks or even more???

There is no rule were to cue a track up. Decide what part of the track you want to play and cue from there. Remember - this is what djing is about. Doing your own thing.

I generally cue it up on the first beat of the track. I used to play the whole song and mix the last minute of the old song with the first minute of the new song. While this works good for progressive, it does not work well with trace (leads to long drops in the energy level). I now play the new track from the beginning and I generally mix out with about 2:30 minutes left in the old song. I say generally b/c it really depends of the tracks being played. This also helps keep the energy level up b/c as the melody of the outgoing track ends, the melody of the new song begins. Sometimes I play all the breakdowns and sometimes I only play one of them. Like I said before it really depends on the tracks. Don't be afraid to mix it up and change things around. Play what you like and how you like it. The way I do it works for me but it might not work for you. Just experiment and develop your own style. Hope this helps.

I cue it up at the first beat of the track also so that I have no doubt that when I release the track, that I release it in-phrase. Just because I cue it at the first beat doesn't mean that I play out the song either. I usually start the cue track when I know the live one is in the middle of spinning down at the last break. Then, by the time the last break is done, the cued track is almost at its first break, hence this gives you about 30-50 seconds to assure yourself one final time that everything is beatmatched etc and you have a tight mix as a result!

A good rule of thumb is to cue the first beat!!! I usually can't go wrong with but I guess all depends on what tracks you are spinning as well.

i always use the first beat. i go for really long mixes anyway, so if i dropped it any later 2 problems arise. #1. way too much energy going on between the 2 tracks or #2, by the time i grab the mixed-out track off the decks and throw a new one on, i run out of time live track to beatmatch and mix the next track
