Dunno Mid-price mixer with best sound quality?

I'm looking at getting a mixer, but i don't wanna spend more than the price of a DJM 500. I thought about getting a pioneer, but have been told by many that the sound quality is quite average. I also thought of the vestax pcv 275, but understand that its not the best for recording quality, although the channel and crossfaders are better than the djm series. I'd luv an allen & heath, but can't afford it.
Also, i haul my mixer around with me, so it must be built well.

Can someone please suggest what i should do, or give me some info i don't have ?

THX

get a 275.

I like mine, and I've had no problem with the sound quality of recorded sets.

It's also built well, and pretty sturdy. A great mixer.

Getting a vestax probably is the best idea, the DJM 500 costs about 900-950€, and a good vestax is about 700-800€... I would go for the vestax if i was you

check out the ecler smac series...

its funny cause i just posted a question right before i read this post. i probably sound like an ecler marketing scheme...

they are supposedly very well built. from what i have read, anyone that's ever had one has never had a problem. they last forever and sound good. however, i've never owned one, but am looking into getting one soon. check it out:

If you INSIST on staying with ecler, go for the HAK-360, its better than most of the SMAC mixers. But, there are better brands then ecler...

Don't go for ecler, there are much better models out there that don't even cost that much.

For exemple vmx300 from behringer, they are well known for there good mixers. On the site that you gave the Ecler Smac Pro 40 costs 513 €, at this site, the vmx300 costs 286 €

Our top-of-the-line VMX gives you 3 dual-input channels for connection of up to six stereo sources. Channel 1 features a built-in ULN mic preamp and an auto talkover function for your mic; channels 2 and 3 are laid out for phono and line-level signals. Each channel sports a gain control, an extremely musical 3-band EQ with an amazing 32 dB of maximum attenuation, a PFL button with status LED and an ULTRAGLIDE fader with a curve control switch, allowing you to choose between soft, mid and sharp fader curves.
The VMX300’s master section provides two separately controllable main out sections, talkover controls and a flexible PFL section that allows you to mix and split your PFL signal as required. A dual 10-segment LED level meter displays main or PFL levels; below that, you’ll find the controls for BEHRINGER’s knockout XPQ surround circuitry. Add a reversible ULTRAGLIDE crossfader with freely adjustable curve and our beat counter with Tempo Difference and Time Offset displays plus Sync Lock and Beat Assist functions, and you’ve got one hell of a master section. But the best is yet to come: our front-panel 3-way kill switches with tap-and-hold action open the door to the most creative mixes you’ve ever spun. Like all of our VMX series DJ mixers, the VMX300 is entirely based on our renowned ULN (Ultra Low-Noise) circuitry to ensure professional audio quality at all times. And our state-of-the-art VCA level engine is assurance that the ULTRAGLIDE faders and crossfader will operate with maximum precision and outlive most other faders on the DJ market.

This is just an example to show you that there are just as good mixers out there that cost a hell less than the one you have your mind set up to.

Ya, ive looked at behringer, but it scares me at what you get for the price. I feel like i should be paying more for what it says it can do, and many have said stay away from Behringer, and that nothing is smooth or feels right. as for the ecler, i want something brand name as well. I live in canada and no one around here deals with ecler, so if i have a problem, it could be a pain in the ass

That futureproducers.com site is really informative, but my piece of shit Numark got pretty much the same rating as a lot of the mixers i'm looking at in terms of sound quality, an my numark sux for sound quality IMO.

Are there any other mixers that have the options for effects or sampling like that of the DJM series? Lately DJM's have been selling on Ebay with warranty for like $600.00 U.S., i'm gettin kinda interested...., should i still stay clear?

Confused

yeah, I hear the Vestax 275 is good as well... I've been thinking of getting a 175... what's the difference between the 275 and 175??? They don't say much about the differences on Vestax.com
I've heard the 175 is really good already... I mean for the money as well...

don't get a 175! the build quality is much lower. the kill switches make loud annoying clicks, the paint chips off easy, and the whole thing feels cheap and crappy.

if that isn't enough, the worst thing about this mixer is that you can't hear the EQ in the headphones!

that reason alone is enough to go for the 275
