cdj-500 pioneer review

hi,

I was thinking on buying a pioneer cdj-500 and I heard they sucked!
A friend told me that if you scream loud enough in front of one the song will skip. He also said that they have a terrible records of not being reliable readers, meaning they donīt recognize many cd brands.
He said as well that the cdj-500 has the annoying habit of breaking the cd door that holds the cd and fixing that isnīt cheap....
But that just canīt be, pioneer equipment is supposed to be very good and I own a DJM-300 and I canīt complaint...

so, I would like to hear from you your experiences with this equipment and what do you think of the CDJ-500 from PIONEER.

Regards,

Gh0

I played on a pair of these, and they were great. I had a couple of burned CDS(cursors), popped em in, they played fine, pitch was responsive, jog wheel was tight, CD door was not broken.

i didn't play at a very loud level, but it didn't skip once.

Well.. I haven't heard much negative comments on the Pioneer CDJ series at all, I think they're a safe buy

I highly recommend the Pionner CDJ-500 II Limited Editions. I have two friends who use the same exact setup:

2 Pioneer CDJ-500II
1 Pioneer DJM-500

I've mixed on both, and they're extremely nice. On one set, we had the volume shaking the entire house, and it never skipped once. Shit, we even bumped into the coffin and it didn't skip.

The other was played at a low level and it too never skipped.

The CD Doors... neither of my friends have ever reported problems with them.

And about CD's, both of my compatriots use nothing but CD-R's... let's put it that way. All brands work.

Nice friends

Anyway, I wouldn't worry much, the pioneer cdj-series are the best ones out there IMO.

I have CDJ-100s and I am a big advocate of Pioneer equip--also having a DJM-600. Too bad Pioneer doesn't make tts! haha. Anyway, I would suggest that you go for the CDJ-100s. The sound quality is the same...it's a cd for gods sake, and the price is a lot better for the 100s. The 500 has a few looping features, but unless you know that you are going to use that function, then don't waste your money! I have it on my mixer and I've never used it...I don't think 90+% of the people who have that function ever use it! It's very difficult to use loops well and takes a while to learn how to do it well. Most of the time I wouldn't suggest this feature for live performances etc

I'm not saying that you can't do cool things with it, but chances are you'll never use it and this is the main advantage over the CDJ-100s. Not only that, but the 500 is a top-loading deck, so first, the deck is freakin HUGE! Just take a look at the pic above and realize that the top part with the cd is actually the size of a cd, and that is less than a quarter of the actual size of the player. Second it has a top-loading door that does have the ability to break off, get stuck, wear out, etc. The CDJ is quite a bit narrower and it has a nice slot-loading system--no tray!

Not only that, but since most people don't use the loops anyway, it would be nice to have some effect features instead wouldn't it? The CDJ 100 has three--Zip, Jet and Wah; three quite common effects (except for zip maybe)! Since you don't have a mixer capable of delivering effects, then you may want to rethink getting the 500 and getting the 100 instead. Take the extra money you save and buy music or software--or save up for a better mixer or a turntable.

At www.pssl.com the 100s are $299 and the 500IIs are $560! That is $520 worth of savings! Quite a lot to consider! That is a month or three of car payments, your half of the rent, or a buttload of music to buy so that you can make a good demo and promote yourself to clubs! Shit, you could invest it for retirement, or buy a hooker for a night But I've been using the CDJ-100s for several years now and they have been very very good for me. I can mix very well with them and I've never wanted for more features.

Either way, let me know what you descide.

thanks mates, that helps a lot.

And, about Dj Flesch's accessment, in I am going to buy the cdjs here in Brazil and the 500's II costs a lot less than the 100's here because I am going to buy them used.
Brandnew ones costs way too much.
I actually prefer the 100's for room issues and for the fact that they have the eject cd and not that door that you have to open up all the time but, with local currency, I can get a pair of 500's for 1800 and a brandnew pair of 100's costs over 2800.

Regards.
