Many prog tunes have:

1) slower tempos
2) more driven by rhythm rather than melody
3) dynamic basslines
4) dark sound

example producers/dj's:
sasha, digweed, steve porter, sander kleinenberg, james holden, noel sanger... etc...

also anything released on bedrock

Basically music is played between 128-138bpm +/- 3bpm on occasions, progressing by adding new elements(sounds) to bassline and melody, at even intervals instead of more sudden changes like in Epic/Cyber/straight Trance or retro/funky/tech house tracks. (Note a LOT of tech-house tracks can also be progressive).

Examples:
Progressive House: Peter Jurgens -- Star b/w The Noise, Cube -- Pornstar Girl(awesome track)

Deep Progressive Trance: Christopher Lawrence -- Nitro (Fluid In Motion + Machinineries Rmxs), Michele Nicol -- Time

Up-Beat or Energetic Progressive Trance: Tillman Uhrmacher-- On The Run(Ferry Corsten + PPK Rmxs) Nuw Idol -- Satan b/w The Golden Void,
PVD -- Nothing But You(not out yet, release 4/23/03)
