Question Cueing a dj set in sound forge

Hellow,

I have a little problem in SF6.0.. I've recorded a dj set but when I try to save it in pieces it (.mp3 format) it adds some silence in front and at the end of it which results in a little click when you burned it on a cdr. Anyone knows how to solve this problem?

What you working with mp3 for? If you're recording a DJ set on your computer with the idea of getting it on CD, record to WAV only.

This could be a problem with your recorder / recording software.

Personally I use CDRWin for burning mixes to CD, that way you don't actually have to chop the mix into pieces, you just leave it as one long file, write a cue file for CDRWin describing where the track joins are and it does the rest. Stable as hell too in my experience, highly recommended.

If you are using Adaptec to burn your cds, make sure you burn them as DAO, not TAO. This will get rid of those annoying gaps between tracks. If it is sound forge making them, try doing it this way.

Highlite what you want to be track 1. Select copy. Open new file, paste. Save as. It will ask you a qustion once you have saved it about opening in a new window, click yes.
Go back to the original wave of the entire mix. Leave the hilighted section still highlited. Now move the curser to the point on the left edge of the highlite. It will come up with a left-right arrow. Click and hold down on this and drag the highlite to the right to the point where you want track two to finish. Copy, new file, past, save as.
Repeat this untill you have all your tracks. They should have no blank bits at the end/beginning.

thanks for the replies,

well that's the problem in SF, I save the files just the way you say it with the copy/paste thing but at the beginning, end it seems to add a very short silence..resulting in a click when you play the cd. Maybe I should save in .wav files.

Tranceinmysoul can you do the cue's precise in cdrwin so you don't have to click & pray it's a good point?

Well, CDRWin allows you to specify which frame on the CD a track starts at.

Everyone () knows that a CD is divided into minutes, seconds and frames, with 75 frames a second.

This means you can set your cue points to the nearest 0.013s or so.
