well, is it?
.. sure headphones/earphones provide pleasurable quality trance straight in your ears.. but is it really worth damaging your ear drums or if not permantly making you def?.. or are there any safe headphones/earphones that do protect you from these kinds of things.. i'm listening with headphones on right now.. but im scared shitless that if one day my hearing will just dissapear because of the stupid headphones.. any comments/suggestions or any other feedback you guys can share?
.. is there any possiblilites that new headphones reduce the risk of getting these life-threatening problems?
Headphones won't damage your hearing unless you use them at really loud volume levels.
Clubs are alot more dangerous for hearing damage than wearing headphones, even if it is less frequent.

the bacteria in ur ear increases up to 700 times when u hav an earphone in ur ear, so the only real cause for concern would be about getting an infection, or greater wax buildup. But as far as damaging ur ear drums, u dont need to worry about that unless ur blasting it into ur ears at ridiculous volumes.

I notice when I have headphones on my ears sometimes hurt or ring afterwards. When I listen with normal speakers, I don't seem to get that.
I don't know why that is, because I don't turn the headphones up that high.
Headphones cause more damage cause they are closer to the ear drum.. and cause the actual ear bud stops the air coming out.. it bangs the ear drum even more.. no matter @ what levels.. so its more damaging then @ a club cause at least there is circulation...
if your ears hurt or start ringing.. then you know you've had ennuff... LOWER IT DOWN!

I doubt that bassaholix, there're times I've came back from a club and my ears have been ringing for over 24 hours afterwards. That can't be good. I've never had anything like that from earphones, in fact I never get any ringing at all.

that's nothing, i've had that shit for more than a week afterwards
"Hearing damage from headphones is probably more common than from loudspeakers, because many people exploit the acoustic isolation by listening at higher volumes. Moreover, the risk of hearing damage from headphones is higher than with loudspeakers, even at comparable volumes, due to the close coupling of the transducers to the ears. One of the benefits of headphone listening is the ability to detect musical details. Any hearing damage would have substantial impact on that experience..."
