I am wondering if anyone has some simple exercises I can do to practice just beatmatching? I am thinking about just putting on records and beatmatching to perfection over and over again... but I was wondering if someone had thought up something more creative/fun?

I am pretty good at it, but it takes me an incredibly long time to get it "just right" so I dont have to worry about it while I am making my transition. I figure

there isnt any i do. maybe just to see how fast i can beatmatch.

i let one vinyl play and see how many songs i can beat match into it before that vinyl stops.

i dont think speed should be a big concern for you as long as you get it matched before you want to mix it in your fine and also you will pick up on the speed thing evantually, just keep practicing.

It really helps me... (when practicing) to put the pitches of the records close to each other, and then letting them both run for awhile. Once the beats have been galloping for awhile try to fix it quickly. Not only will this help train your ear for which is running faster than the other, but it also will help train you to respond faster when you get into a jam, playing live.

My advice is to play around, skip waiting three breakdowns before
you mix out. Mix out before the first breakdown and then mix in
just before the first breakdown in the other tune and vice versa.

Just dont do it plain and boring because, it needs to be said, you
learn so much faster and better if you are having fun while doing it!
Try to make it as "non plain" as possible, funnier to listen to
and funnier to mix, dont get your knackers in a twist just because
you cant make a perfect transition.

Everything will come to you as time passes.

guys, okay, I am like 95% able to beatmatch, I am just looking for fun ways to get better at some precise beatmatching.

Because I keep running into the problem where I am too busy to make a good transition cuz I am trying to hold the beats together

I can usually roughly beat match quite well, but I still have some problems with the finer adjustments.

So yesterday I just tried to have 2 tunes going all the time I didn’t worry about making transitions or phrase matching or even having them matched exactly all the time. Instead I just focused on making small adjustments to bring them back into time. I even did some without using headphones.

I found that this was much more relaxing then attempting to do mixes where I would focus too much on not making any mistakes and end up being frustrated.

no matter how well you match tbe beats, they will drift off at one point. When I mix, I play with my EQs 50% of the time, and the pitch slider. If you want that clean, solid mix, then you gotta constantly move your pitch slider. One of my good friends who is now a famous famous DJ taught me this pitch bending thing where I don't even have to touch the record to match the beats. If's not how fast you match the beats. I mean you could probably pull out any records to see if you want to throw it in the mix if you could beatmatch that fast but that's no biggie

I used to have the 32nd beat mixing style but I was just another OK DJ in the rave scene. Now I have this "ILLUSION MIXING" Sorta like Ferry Corsten but longer mixes

u could do this but it'll cost u some money

I just hooked a Korg beat box up to my mixer so I have both tables plus the beat box providing sounds.......I set a beat into the beat box and try to match it and so forth.......this helps b/c with the beatbox, there is no breakdown or anything so u can mix in and out of it all day long........
