I did a search, nothing came up so I'm sorry if this is a repeat topic. I was wondering what songs you use if you introduce friends/relatives/signigficant others to trance. I usually use some of the best known stuff, but what about you guys?

What Ive used to try to get my friends into trance is Tiesto's Magik series. Magik's 3-6 are all a great listen. Another option, if you have a cd burner is to just select represetational tunes of each little sub-genre and see what they like, then push them in that direction. By sub-genres i mean like, pure uplifting, vocal cheese, vocal trance (not cheese)....etc

I'd probably start with some classics, maybe popular uplifting tunes, you know what I mean

I'd mostly keep to accessible stuff, they'll be able to get into their own taste soon enough. And I'd get them to sign up here :x


I'd show them tunes like

Ferry Corsten - Indigo
PvD - Nothing But You
Scott Bond vs Solar Stone - The 3rd Earth, this sort of stuff mainly

It's a very hard situation and varies from person to person.

As a general rule, I'd stick to the slightly cheesey, melodic, uplifting and perhaps vocal stuff. Don't want the tracks to be too unapproachable.

Saying this however, I have a friend who has no real musical genre of preference, but he finds most of the common, more approachable trance OK, but I dropped him in the deep end with some Hybrid and he really liked it.

Well, it really depends. My friend listens to mostly rap and some rock, but I heard him listening to a Portishead CD one time (trip hop, basically) so that gave me an indication. He liked more progressive, downtempo stuff like Grayarea - Yewminyst and he also liked Holden's 93 Returning mix of Nothing. So it varies, but the general rule is...

... everyone likes Nothing.

You gotta decide if you want to play them the more melodic stuff - which say old relatives might liken to classical music.

solid globe - north pole
sonorous - protonic (ronski Speed Mix)
scott bond vs solar stone - 3rd earth


Or maybe the kinda stuff that ferry might play - which is a progression from the commercial stuff a younger friend might have heard on the radio

What I've noticed is that different people might respond well to a certain "type" of electronica. Not everyone gives a positive response to uplifting cheesy ATC type stuff.

First try a classic with a great melody such as...
William Orbit - Ravels Pavane pour une Infante Defunte (Ferry Corsten Remix)
or
Photon Project - Illumination


then try something maybe harder and funkier like...
Tomcraft - Loneliness (Klub Mix)
or
Moguai - Get On

Then some progressive like...
Sasha - Xpander
or
James Holden - Nothing (Returning 93 Mix)

Maybe the respond to breakbeat...
Cern - Baileys
or
Infusion - Legacy (Junkie XL Remix)

It all depends on the person dude, again each person responds differently to different types of tracks... try all different genres, then after they say they like it you say "Welcome to the world of Electronic Dance Music" Peeze!

hmm, depends if they have a high tolerance for redundancy, ill use a vocal free ch00n, but the andain tracks seem to work well as well as lost vaugeness (oliver lieb mix) I also notice the harder trance people find easier to accept than softer stuff at first so get some banging toons like Paul Maddox - Tension (freak mix) or any marco V they usually like those Echoes would be GREAT!! the vision mix ne way, any MIKE tunes Push tranceformation would settle well, personally i feel it depends on the person, some people really fall for the vocals, others need a segway into it for example rockers need harder stuff whilst others feel more comfortable to the melodic, as long as you get that, this is pretty cool reaction they should be hooked rather quickly lmao. then of course there are a few people who just dont get the energy and vibe of trance, for these people i have more sympathy than anyone on the earth for i feeeeel soo bad for them, its like not being able to fully expirience life.

Basically when introducing keep in mind what genre they are coming from, try to find a good track that has elements they enjoy in music, so basically they can see what their favorite elements are like hellaamplified lolz, I am in an area which had no trance addicts but one by one they all fall MUWAHAHAH heh.
