I can't mix for shit when I'm stoned. A little buzz maybe, but all out whacked and I can't mix at all. There should be a whole thread for this, I'd be interested to see how many people spin better that way.
I used to use the crossfader an awful lot when I started and my mixes actually turned out almost as good as they do now that I only use the EQ's. I don't use the crossfader at all, and hardly ever use the channel faders, I just bring the cued track in real low and then work the EQ's. One thing that might help, when I want to do faster transitions, if I'm playing harder stuff, then I'll make drastic changes during the phase kick. I gradually work the EQ's during the loop, then I'll really cut back on the outgoing EQ and bring in the incoming EQ (Sometimes it'll be High/High, sometimes High/Mid, etc.).
What you don't want to do, is make quick EQ shifts during the loop, because it will really sound out of place. Work with the two tunes, feel them out, and bring in sections of one song as the sections of another start to fade out. It's easy to get the basics down, the hardest part is really knowing your tunes and when certain parts cut out/come in, so you can make the appropriate adjustments on the incoming track.
Hope that helps, and more importantly made sense.
