Re: how long do you normally mix for?

just curious about your guys mixing habbits. |
I practice for a hour or so at least every other day. I often won't do a full mix but will have lots of ideas on a running list I keep, and will experiment pulling several of those together. (Last nights experiment was to see if I could mix Deux > Ian Browns F.E.A.R Unkle Mix) > Ed Stone 6 Feet underground > ColdPlay Clocks (Trifactor Mix), now I've got a new 38 Minute mix set).
I play using Vinyl, CD's and Traktor on my laptop, so running out of tunes to practice with ain't a problem as I'll download to audition stuff I want to experiment with. If it sounds good then I'll buy the music. I never play a track live at a gig without 'owning' the track first, so sometimes ideas get shelved for several months while I try to find that rare Promo remix on acetate. It gets expensive though and I'm cutting back as my average month on vinyl and CD's runs $400.00
I don't get bored coz one night I might feel like a good dose of Hard Trance the next might be Breaks, the following might be leftfield-Downtempo, the night after might be Euro-Dance, followed by a Tribal-Tech night.
I don't play live REAL often when I do its for 2-3 hours and its mostly gigs up in Seattle coz almosty all my stuff is U.K. European, The local Dance - Trance scene in Portland Oregon, is tiny, very narrow and way too commercial, If it ain't playing on the local Dance music station (and I use the term loosely) they ain't listening. Take the same set to Seattle or Vancouver BC and the atmosphere is electric. When I practice its about getting better so theres always a challenge.
