It is easier at first.... But once you start playing on louder systems it gets alot easier to listen with just one headphone... IMO

Probably, i use a 6 Speaker setup here at home, they are tiny but produce shitload of noise I never turn it up tho cause someones always home and bitchin'

I wouldn't say it is weird at all. It's all a matter of what is most comfortable/successful for you.

i use split mode in my headphones, and i cue channel 2 to be master, so i dont need to listen to the live sound...cause it's in my fones.

Currently i use my discman headphones to mix , the ones you plug into your ear but my previous headphones's right channel screwed up so i had to mix holding my right ear and mixing with the left...

But either way is easy IMO.

at home I put chan 1 in the left ear and chan 2 in the right ear to match em. Then switch to master when I mix the track in.

when in a club I definitly go one on one off. I only do that because the bass is so intense in a club you get a better listen to it w/o headphones on.

Before I played in a club I would only mix in my phones but it is real easy to switch and it actually becomes easier IMO.

exactly! be careful of getting to used to split mode if you use it and your mixer has it. not all mixers have this feature so if you get too dependent upon it you could be in trouble when you play at a club or party that the mixer they're using doesn't have a headphone split. cheers.

how necessary is this one ear beatmatching in a club/loud environment? I have been practicing for two months now and headphone mix seems the easiest (and only ) way for me so far, and my mixer doesn't have split mode either. I tried one ear couple of times and seemed impossible , maybe because it is not very loud at home? my concern is that do I have to learn that in the future and if so would split cueing on the headphones be a step towards using one ear...

I use 1 ear for the initial beatmatching but I always bring the main in just slightly with the phones cue fader, especially if the systems not turned up loud. Or hold the phones a little away from your ear, or half off. But if the systems loud enough then full on with only the cued track in the phones works for me.

When I first learned to mix, I could only ever manage it with the phones on and both tunes playing. Then I played out on a club system which didn’t have this cue function, only split cue. Train wrecks ahoy, lol. That made me learn dam quick that one ear method was the way to go. Now I can’t do it the old way like I used to.

i do exactly the same thing. odd thigs about my style is i monitor "backwards". i've nothice most dj's that monitor with one ear use their left ear to monitor with their headphones. i use my right.
