Smiley DJ Final Scratch, the future???

Is Final Scratch the future in the djing world?
yes - no
why?

Now in final scratch you can connect only 2 TT and some ppl say that with 3 or 4 decks connected in final scratch the vinyls don't have future.

not THE future I think. A part of the future. It will become a medium next to CD players like the CDJ1000. I think vinyl will become a smaller part of the future. And probably, in another 30 years, vinyl will almost be disapeared, replaced by digital mediums.

(just my 2 cents)

No, it
s not the future, but like Tiger said, it'll be part of it. CD decks are already established as a second to vinyl recomendded medium, and eventually digital media will be a major part of DJing.
Oh, and as long as ther are turntables around, vinyl will NEVER dissapear.

It won't disapear in this generation of DJ's, but in the next one, vinyl will be ranked under CD's.

I like your sig

I think the main reason to keep vinyl is the physical band with the music, you don't have that with any digital media. That's also the reason why I've chosen to buy turntables in stead of CDJ's. The sound quality doesn't matter THAT much. I mean, I'm just a humble bedroom dj

Hmmmm... Final Scratch?

More like Final Scratch my arse!

He he... no seriously now I will agree that FS will be a part of the future without a doubt. While the likes of Tiesto and PVD push new technologies I don't think that either CD or FS will take over from vinyl. Vinyl was pronounced dead in the late 80's when CDs where introduced but the only real victim of that was the audio cassette.
There is something very real and tactile about vinyl, the way the grooves feel at your finger tips... The CDJs that I know have become that through lack of choice and not because of a desire to play CDs.

If PVD didn't use FS then I think it may well have been dismissed as something of a gimmick (Not saying that it is). On a side note and the risk of getting flamed to death I actually think that PVD is quite bland anyways both in terms of production and set choices. Nem reaches for the asbestos armour.

Vinyl isn't always the most practical medium it has to be said but there is a magic in carting your records about. I now have a record box with wheels! Makes my life so much easier.

Cheers
Nem

Edit - Playing out with FS seems to be a slight nuicance as clubs don't have it as standard so you have to make sure you get there in time to set it all up. I suppose it's just a few extra things to think about.

Interesting.

Last big name DJ I saw was Judge Jules (last weekend in Brighton England to be precise), and I know a lot of people have very mixed feelings about him but he was actually really damn good. Was supposed to warm up for Fergie a while back but ended up going abroad that weekend. Also played the final set after Joy Kitikonti a while back, which by all accounts actually was pretty cool. Sadly he had almost emptied the place before hand, through no fault of his own I must add. I think it was just the wrong crowd. He plays more funky and minimalistic techno and this was a pure trance crowd.
Actually, those lines make it seem like I'm a bigger DJ than I am but I guess I have just been lucky with some of my venues.

I see your point though. When I saw PVD he was dull but it's always good when you hear that 6k people have had a good time. Besides, he seems to be really big on your side of the pond at the moment. I hope to get the chance to play there someday

Cheers
Nem

i dont think FS will be the future, but definitely part of it (as previously mentioned X 10) i thing an issue is the cost, because it is a bit more expensive than turntables for clubs. pioneer gave away CDJs for free (or so im told) as a promotion, but theres no way stanton can afford that.. the only real promotion FS will get is by the djs who go out and buy a laptop and FS. this is why FS will probably never take over in the next couple generations.. and who knows what will happen next. first vinyl, then cdj, now digital vinyl.. the possibilities for djing are endless so there will never be a final step... just fitting new technologies into old ones

FS may be part of the future, but not for me ... I use computers all day at work. DJing lets me get away from that (altho I do use my computer to record stuff).

Also I'm starting to get quite a collection of vinyl and I can't be bothered to record all of it.

Right now DJing is a hobby for me and a big part of it is collecting vinyl, the stuff I listen to is most easily avalible on vinyl, excluding mp3s which arn't as fun to collect (hording physical things is much more rewarding ).

Of course if/when vinyl stops being produced I'll have to find another format.

I am begining to accept final scratch

as I dont have as much money as i used to to purchase records

I am looking at getting it in the future

I'd prefer it over a cd deck(i already have one) because it has the vinyl feel
