She, my latino princess, lives in Ecuador. Mixing her culture and mine resulted in a major clash. You see in order for her to be accepted as having a boyfriend, without being stamped out as "USED TRASH", we needed to get married.

She really wanted this, however I didn't. Can you imagine getting married when you're 20 years old? No matter how good the girl is, I'd give it serious doubts.

Now, why am I writing this at all? I guess if someone cared to answer to this, I'd be grateful:

im srroy to hear that you had to make such a drastic decision.
but im not sure that its the ecuadorian culture that you should blame, sounds more like some high strung family-set rules/tradition.

getting married at such an early age doesnt neccessarily mean that youll end up screwed over for the rest of your life but i think that its such an important decision that it couldve waited until both of you were done were done with school and financially stable.

It really sounds as though you are doing what is best for yourself even though it is a painful thing to do.

Sometimes, its really hard to set aside your feelings and your emotions and make a tough decision. I respect you for being man enough to do that.

Maybe the two of you can stay in touch and be friends so in the future, when you're ready for something more...

I don't have to worry about ALL the challenges that would rise if we were to marry.



And really, alcohol helps, clubbing also works as a temporary remedy for the pain.

My sister got engaged when she was 20... the marriage date was later though, I think she was 22... it's not THAT big a deal if you're ready to make the commitment.

It all depends on your personal situation. My brother-in-law was in med school, so his future was pretty secure. It's not really the age that matters, it's just whether or not you're ready to settle down.

So, I can't really say what I'd have done in your position, and I don't think anyone else can either. It depends on what stage you're in with your life right now. Possibly, you're just afraid of serious commitment. Or, possibly (I'd say likely, since most people haven't planned their futures at age 20), you did what you had to do.
