Bedrock's 50th Release
Bedrock's special 50th release
To commemorate its 50th release, John Digweed's Bedrock Records label will soon present a 4 x single sided 12" pack consisting of new remixes of some of their biggest tracks including Bedrock - 'Heaven Scent' (Yunus Guvenen Remix), Saints & Sinners 'Pushin' Too Hard' (The Official 2003 Remix), Tijuana - 'Groove Is In The Air' (The Low End Specialists Dirty Sanchez Remix) and Bedrock - 'Emerald' (Grayarea's Speakeasy Remix).
Bedrock Records was designed to compliment John Digweed's unique Bedrock parties in London and Brighton and to bring exposure to artists such as Steve Lawler, Moonface, Sean Cusick, Pole Folder and Brancaccio & Aisher amongst others. Bedrock also won an award for 'Best Label' at the Dancestar Awards in London in 2002.
The last Bedrock London party of this year took place at Heaven earlier this month with a lineup featuring Sasha, John Digweed and Fabio & Grooverider. Bedrock will return to London in 2004, but if you can't wait until then Bedrock Brighton will go ahead on 5th December with Phil Thompson and NYC's Low End Specialists.
We asked John to give his reaction on the 50th Bedrock release.
John Digweed:
I'm really proud and excited about our 50th release on Bedrock, it's a major accomplishment to be releasing our 50th single, not to mention some great albums, especially in light of other great labels who have celebrated landmarks of their own this year like Wall of Sound, End Recordings and Paper. Looking back over the 50 releases there have been some huge highlights for me personally in DJ'ing as well as my own production with Nick Muir.
It was really difficult to pick 4 tracks out of so many that stand out but these 4 tracks in many ways have come to define the label in some way, they've influenced the direction of things and sound as good today as they did when they were originally released. That said, the new remixes have really impressed me, all 4 remixers have done great jobs. I'm sure as time goes on people will look back at even more of the back catalogue and even more will get remixed. Looking forward to the next 50 though!
Mick Boskamp, Nightlife Reporter:
What can I say? I am thrilled, to say the least! I can't wait to hear the refurbishment of Bedrock's house classics. With his label, John proves he has a pair of ears that is unsurpassed and on top of that he makes wise business decisions. In a world where famous labels are being dismantled his label is as steady as a (Bed)rock. I hope he sends me some test pressings... Maybe I can barter with some incredible Dutch mixes for his radio show on Kiss FM.
