this country's "spring break" is this week, started on monday. everyone is at some beach or something, but im a poor bastard so i stayed in town. as a consequence, all clubs, and cool places are closed. even most restaurants. a friend of mine was cool enough to lend me his decks (damn i love that guy ), theyre not top of the line, but its quite entertaining. my mixing has been getting better every hour
for the curious ones, the setup is:
2x Stanton STR8-80 Direct Drive Turntables (they're pretty nice, not as much torque as techies, but i don't really need much torque to mix, really. has a nice reverse function, ive experimented a bit with it)
1x Stanton SK6 Battle Mixer (not too fond of it, but it gets the job done. i'd kill for a mid EQ though... and the damn volume faders are too frickin abrupt)
he lent me his vinyl collection, which includes:
Mavi - Fallen (a Yunus Guvenen production)
Fortunato & Montresor - Imagine (Chris Fortier Mixes)
BT - Somnambulist (2x12", Burufunk\Sander K\Junkie XL Mixes)
Watkins - Black A.M.
2 Guys - Geronimo/Eastern Crown
Steve Lawler - Andante (Taiko Dub\Scumfrog Remix)
Danny Tenaglia - Turn Me On (2x12", incl. John Ciafone, John Digweed & Nick Muir, Kano and Michael Diamond Remixes)
Planet Funk - The Switch (Dino Lenny\Scumfrog Remixes)
Layo & Bushwacka! - It's Up To You (incl. Lee Cabrera Remix)
Tantamanna - Bad Dreams
Scumfrog - Music Revolution (Planet Funk\Funk D'Void Mixes)
and many moreeee...
it's been entertaining to say the least.

The Amp is defintely NOT a trance club. The Amp is good for their visual show on stage and sometimes they have decent music, but for the most part it is the same thing every weekend. People go there for everything but to hear trance music. That is a breakbeat club with a little bit of trance music here and there. Commercial trance that is...the kind that all of us would recognize. There is no such thing as a trance club here in Tampa. I should know because I would be there. The club scene used to go off...not anymore. There is a small trance scene still around but this town is nothing like what it used to be and it never will be. Too bad this damn town is too afraid to do a full blown trance night at any club. Too bad people here are stuck in a time warp and can't accept the fact that my best friend spins trance and has been for years now. Too bad the club owners and promoters don't have the balls to bring in big names like Tiesto, Ferry, PvD, or Armin. They think they are bringing in big names when they book local/FL breakbeat DJ's (no names mentioned of course) and once in a blue moon bring in a trance DJ from here in FL. Too bad I have to drive to Miami to hear good music and see my favorite international DJ's. Thank God for things like Ultra.
