I think they're the same if not slightly different...only used the mk2 so can't speak from experience. And wouldn't the m3d have more torque because it's a newer model? Overall though, any tech should have enough torque for anyone.

not at all. i have M3ds, but often spin on mk2s at friends' houses or when spinning out. i think the M3ds have more torque, but if not more then they are exactly the same.

i thought they all had 1.5kg..?

No. The Mk2 and the M3D use exactly the same motor. The torque is exactly the same.

true the mk2 and m3d have identical electronics. The only electrical difference is the pitch slider.

Seems to me theres quite a lot of Technics rumors floating around. torque on mk2 == torque on m3d.

Being an owner of an MK2 and an M3D, I'd say the torque difference is something that is unoticable. You'd probly need actual testing equipment to verify that.

there's other things that can be contributing factors to feel differences between your friend's deck and yours. IE, his bearing may be a little dry and tense, also maybe a pot adjustment is slightly off. IF you were to look at the drive control pcb on a mk2 and a m3d you probably won't be able to tell the difference b/c they are the same. On the last production run of the m3d, i've noticed they changed it slightly for use w/ newer mk5 and mk5g by having a connector for 16% pitch. Everything else is the same though.
