Sony MDR-V700

I wouldnt touch any other pair. i have these and i love them. the sound quality is absolutely MAGNIFICANT. even at extremely high volumes, there is no distortion. sometime i use them as speakers. i use them to DJ and produce and i wouldnt work a day without them. I only got them because i saw all the big name DJs using them and i figured, they must be good. i got them and they were better than i expected. trust me, you will never regret buying these headphones:

need i say more??? check 'em out here.

last tip. search ebay or something for headphones, just make sure they are from a store and that they are new. i got these for $97. 53 bucks cheaper. yaaay

Probably best to go for closed backs that work well at high volume.
Sennheiser do some good Dj ones I've used to monitor on...(25's I think)
But you can't beat monitoring and mixing on the biggest sound system you can find.... better range of frequency response....

while the sony's are good for DJing, there is a lot of boosting in the bass frequencies which isn't good for producing. For DJing, i recommend the sony MDR V-700, but if you want a relatively linear reproduction of sound, i recommend the sennheiser hd 280 pro headphones. It simply is the best pair of headphones in its price range and much better than most headphones in higher price ranges as well

If you must monitor with headphones, the consensus seems to be that the Sony 7506's and the Sennheiser 280 Pros are the best for this purpose. This is taken from months of research on several headphone forums.

The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro seems to be the winner so far. They look pretty comfortable:

The 280 Pros are good if you need a high degree of isolation. They clamp onto your head pretty well. But ive read some reviews that say they are a bit tight, which isnt good for long period sessions. I've also read that the bass is slightly light & the plastic headband cracks over time.

why not spend a few more dollars & get the Sennheiser HD-580's??

These are my headphones (well soon to be anyways - being delivered right now yerrr!!): the Grado SR-225

My brother has got a pair of Grado SR60's & i was impressed at the soundstage you get at such a cheap price. The sound is smooth & has awesome detail. There are a couple of things I didnt like to much about them: the looks (i reckon they are butt ugly) & the lack of comfort (they dont sit on your ears to well).

The SR225's are pretty much the same shape, so i will have to put up with the slight discomfort (no big deal). The bass is meant to be improved & it has also been design for better airflow. The impedances is 32ohms which is piss-easy to drive.
The review at goodcans.com gave me the final decision to purchase these headphones - check it out:
