Smiley DJ Numark TT-500 turntables!

Does anyone own a pair of these turntables? How are they and is the wow & flutter good on them compared to the Technics? Im upgrading from the Numark TT-1650 turntables, I would greatly appreciate the info. Thanks!

Well the tt-500 are suppose to have the same motor as the ttx-1. So if it's identical, the torque, and wow & flutter should be the same as the ttx. And also the tonearm assembly is the same as the ttx. Really, the only difference would be the worthless digital features found on the ttx. So i would say it probably is a good deck, but, i still think the sl-1200 is a better deck overall b/c it's history of being reliable and easy to repair.

never personally used a tt500, but if they are anything like the ttx then it'll be a good deck. especially good for the price.

I've a TTX and a TT500. I can tell you that I'm very happy with both decks. The motors are incredibly strong, and my TT500 is actually stronger than than my TTX. The first TTX models were rated at 3.1kg/cm whereas the TT500 is rated at 5.0kg/cm. I can feel a definite difference between the two decks. I believe the newer models of the TTX have upgraded to the stronger motor that is in the TT500.

I don't necessarily regret buying the TTX but I've never once used any of the digital features. I do plan on buying a 3rd deck and it will be a TT500.

In terms of wow and flutter and comparisons to the Technics, I sure don't know. I do know that I'm not a very good DJ but I've been able to pull off some nice long mixes with few or no adjustements.

EDIT: Should be 3.7 kg/cm for the TTX

sorry to be picky, but its kg/m. a 5kg/cm motor would chop thru your fingers if you touched the platter

I dunno, in the Product Spec manual says:

Starting Torque: 6.2 lb/in (2.8 kg/cm) with peak Torque @ 3.7 kg/cm

Wow and flutter for the TTX is less than 0.03% so I'm guessing that the TT500 is similar but I don't know for sure.

For comparison, wow and flutter for Technics is 0.01%.

Just a suggestion but for $300 you could get a nice used technics 1200 which you would probably be happier with than a new Numark TT-500. You should look at the stanton st-100's too.

imo, the stanton str8-100/st-100 are still not as solid as a tt-500 or a 1200. It has a too plasticy base, poor pitch fader, and the tonearm always got loose on mine when i had it.
