Reason seems to be the choice for alot of electronic producers.

why is this if it can't accept VST's.

cuz you can produce good music without VSTis. reason has some good instruments built into it like subtractor. and people get can get some fantastic sounds out of it. the instrument isnt as important as the person using it.

ive heard to many classy tracks made out of freebie synths to put any credence into the idea that you need a £1,000 instrument to make good sounds.

A VST is just a format, nothing more.

Why use VSTs when you can use DXs? Or Apple Audio Unit?

For that matter, why use VSTs when you can use Reason?

thanks guys

reason it is.

reason 4.5 is the latest right?

is there a way I can reocrd samples into it (using the AUDIO IN from my sound card) and tweaking it with reason?

or is there a way I can import other samples from other sources (files) and tweaking that with reason?

Most VSTi sound lots of better than subtractor. With LOTS of tweaking you can get make it sound nice, but...well forget it.

Some people really make awesome sounds with Reason ( Airbase ), but they use as far as I know lots of samples.

I really like Reason for just making some notes of my ideas, and arrange some melodies and stuff. But the sound quality problem inn Reason hasn't been solved yet. A good Cubase arrangement with VSTi sound much better without lots of tweaking than a Reason tune.

Just listen to the new prodigy album and compare it to the "Phat of the Land". If you aren't dumb and deaf you'll recognize a huge difference in quality, in bass, in dynamics, the stereo spectrum, the punch and the transparency of the leads sounds ( --> listen to Firestarter and you'll know what I mean )

heheh. airbase stuff sounds awesome cuz of skilled production and expensive hardware, sampled and imported into reason. the new prodigy album sounds awesome cuz liam howlett is a producing legend and after he fiddled in reason he shipped the lot into pro tools and thus also the best set of effects on the planet

on the new prodigy album he did not use reason for his bass. infact if you read the interview with him he clearly states that reason can not produce good bass tones or sounds... also the reason why reason is so heavily used is for the fact that when reason came out fruity loops hadnt began to support vstis, and reason was alot cheaper then any other program. however where reason lacks is its effects as with a vsti supported host you can use vsti effects which blow reason effects out of the water. reason has it issues and to get around them youd have to rewire into cubase and at the expense of lots of cpu usage. honestly your best bet is going with fruity and some good vstis and then move on to cubase or logic. many many great trance tracks are produced in fruity loops i know sevral producers that can make a trance track in fruity loops that will put any reason track to shame. the only thing with vstis is you have to rember the sound quality is limted to the quality of your soundcard... many people will argue this but i dare them to try it and they will see the differnce.

well I don't know and I don't care about others. I myself use reason mainly because of two things. It's fast to work with AND it draws less processorpower than using vst's.

tho I must admit that I use cubase from time to time when I need a special sound I can't get frmo the subtractor BUT the synths in reason are def. underestimated

Because they have a complex thinking because everyone else uses FL studio, it must suck. Kidding. MAny (alot) of pros use FL Studio, some use reason because i believe u can rewire to vsts from Cubase . I guess its about preference.

thanks guys

I wanna master one program and stick to it, looks like fruity loops studio is the answer.

should I go straight to cubase / logic ? I don't see the purpose in starting out with FL studio then learning a entirely new program like cubase / logic. I wanna start one and master it and use one program only.

I figure as long as I can import samples into the program and have full control/tweakability of that sample, the possibilities should be endless.

what u guys think ?

are you guys also saying Reason is not capable of a nice bassline with alot of depth ? If not then layer two basslines and create that depth? couldn't you do that?
