Read This! increase in vynil sales

He y'all!
I usually post in the DJ Booth, but I wanna see other opinions on this matter.

A mid-year report from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) states:
The dance-club DJ favorite, vinyl singles, shipped 1.9 million units in the first six months of 2004, a modest gain of 1.9% over the previous year.

So, either:
Vynil is not dying (Let the digi vs. analog war begin... )
or
more productions are coming out (let the latest trance sucks war begin... )
or
we've got a lot of new Djs

...remember 1.9% of over a million is....

I think it is nice to hear but I don't believe the RIAA figures and I believe they doctor them somehow. 1.6% increase...ahaha...and what is this based on? figures from all the big labels or all the small ones as well or just America?

It is like in business, they say we made .04 a share profit but you wonder what was the net profit or total revenues first. .04 a share seems pretty damn good but what if the company has 35,000 shares, that awful but it they have 35,000,000, that is a different story.

It's entirely possible that vinyl sales are up. I'd like to see some stats about the increase in the number of Turntables sold as well. I think the increase is due in large part to the increasing number of bedroom Dj's. Everyone and their brother is a fuckin' DJ now. I don't think the numbers are skewed at all, I just think they are a direct result of more people trying out Dj'ing.

You haven't noticed an increase in the amount of people trying out DJ'ing? Maybe things are different in Minnesota?

I have noticed an increase in the number of Bedroom Dj's out there. This of course is only based on my personal experience in the Toronto EDM scene.

That's surprising, but i don't see what would be RIAA's interest in inventing these numbers, so i'll believe them.

Unfortunatly I think you guys are reading into this too much. The RIAA also reported an increase in the number of CDs sold. I think it is simply a fact that the whole (recorded) music industry is picking up a little this year.

"Overall, CDs and all other audio and video music products shipped to retail increased 8.5% -- 289 million units vs. 267 million since last year. The dollar value of those shipments rose 4.5%."

CD sales up 10% over '02

Records rebounding

i think the vinyl prices are reacting the same as the current flu vaccine shortage epidemic.. big demand, small supply.

so they take advantage of the big demand by selling them higher than the suggested retail price, knowing that people will buy it eventually at some inflated price.

all in the power of big business.
